Sinopsis

A quixotic adventure narrative of an American businessman setting out, with little know-how and only a basic understanding of the country, to create Ghana's first-ever single-source chocolate bar and build the Omanhene Cocoa Company.
A fascinating and often bemusing David and Goliath story as Steven Wallace takes on the cocoa industry giants, politics and global trade bureaucracy, and the paradoxical and often frustrating daily experience of the Ghanaian government and manages to succeed by the skin of his teeth.
Taps into timely and major topics like globalism, development and philanthropy in Africa, the secretive worlds of big cocoa and chocolate, as well as fair trade and how companies like Amazon and Whole Foods have changed how businesses have to work to get a piece of the market.
Steven and Omanhene have appeared in several books as well as newspaper and magazine articles. Omanhene held popup kitchen featuring its chocolate during New York's Fashion Week, and Steven conceived signature desserts for a UN gala held in honor of Sharon Patrick, CEO of Martha Steward Living. He has given a TED talk on his experiences.
Cowritten by William Madison, who is a former producer at CBS News and who collaborated with Dan Rather on four books.

Today, this engine has stalled. The decade of the 2000s lost one million American jobs, whereas the previous three decades averaged approximately 20 million new jobs per decade. If the next decade, the 2010s, generates only marginal jobs growth, the US economy could collapse under the weight of US debt and obligations. The US has several hundred trillions of dollars worth of debt, which it will not be able to pay if its workforce does not grow.
The Jobenomics team is launching a national 20 by 20 campaign to create 20 million new US private sector jobs by 2020. 20 by 20 includes initiatives for government, large business, small and self-employed businesses, foreign investment in US businesses, and major emerging technology initiatives.
Through Jobenomics, Americans will have common cause and resources to create jobs in order to build a more prosperous future.

By far, the best way to make sure you have an awesome board is to start by having awesome Board members.  In Startup Boards, Brad Feld talks about how having awesome Board members is managing them well giving transparent information, well organized, with enough lead time before a meeting; running great and engaging meetings; mixing social time with business time; and being a Board member yourself at some other organization so you see the other side of the equation. Its about taking the process of choosing Board Members seriously, interviewing many people, checking references, and remembering that there should be no fear in rejecting a wrong fit.

“A competent, thorough assessment from a veteran expert in the field.” —Kirkus Reviews   Income disparities in our wealthy nation are wider than at any point since the Great Depression. The structure of today’s economy has stultified wage growth for half of America’s workers—with even worse results at the bottom and for people of color—while bestowing billions on the few at the very top.   In this “accessible and inspiring analysis”, lifelong anti-poverty advocate Peter Edelman assesses how the United States can have such an outsized number of unemployed and working poor despite important policy gains. He delves into what is happening to the people behind the statistics and takes a particular look at young people of color, for whom the possibility of productive lives is too often lost on the way to adulthood (Angela Glover Blackwell).   For anyone who wants to understand one of the critical issues of twenty-first century America, So Rich, So Poor is “engaging and informative” (William Julius Wilson) and “powerful and eloquent” (Wade Henderson).

Whether you are selling online, through a direct sales force, or via distribution channels, what customers are saying about you online is now more important than your advertising. Social media is no longer a curiosity on the horizon but a significant part of your marketing mix. A shift in philosophy, a modification in strategy, and brand new metrics are the keys to marketing success in this interconnected world. While other books explain why social media is critical and how to go about participating, this book focuses on measuring the success of your social media marketing efforts. Success metrics in business are based on business goals where fame does not always equate to fortune. Having more Twitter followers or Facebook friends than the competition might not result in value. Read this book to determine which social media efforts are working for you, where to allocate more social media resources, and how to convince those who are afraid of new things that social media is a valuable business tool and not just a toy for the overly-wired. Knowing what works and what doesn't is terrific, but only in a constant and unchanging world. Social Media Metrics is loaded with specific examples of specific metrics you can use to guide your social media marketing efforts as new means of communication.

Some attribute it to Aristotle, but whether the great Greek philosopher said it or not doesn’t affect its timeless truth. “If you want to avoid criticism, all you have to do is say nothing, do nothing and be nothing.” If on the other hand, you decide your life is purposed for something worthy and being on the playing field is preferred to sitting in the stands, there is something you are sure to encounter; what Jeff Piersall and Eric Wright call “barking dogs.”Dogs Don’t Bark at Parked Cars illustrates this encounter as the voices that find fault, who don’t think it’s possible, who are unable to see a future alive with opportunities waiting to be seized. They are the ones governed by fear instead of faith. Unfortunately, many times the loudest of these barking dogs are kenneled right in most people’s own heads. For Jeff and Eric, that priceless quality is wisdom. It goes beyond knowledge or aptitude and transcends this era of cultural and technological hyper-change, with principles that are timeless.
