Signing a record deal at the age of 17 is something Alex didn’t plan for, but it sets him on a path that will bring him tantalisingly close to fame, not once, but three and a half times over the next 7 years.
Things don't always go as planned as he ditches school and jumps from US record deals to UK TV appearances, even joining a boy band in his epic quest for fame.
Alex encounters neo-nazis and gangsta rappers up close, and experiences tragedy, mental health challenges and sexual abuse, all during the cultural shift of the 90s meeting the likes of The Fall, Suede, Blur, Patti Boyd, Mansun and PJ & Duncan on the way.
Three And A Half Minutes of Fame is an authentic look back at the 90s, the last decade before social media, seen from the experiences of an Essex boy with a dream.
    Book reviews:
“Fun, nostalgic and painfully honest. A brilliant ride through the ups, downs, hopes and dreams of gigging in the 90s.”
Lucy Nichol, Author, The 27 Club and Parklife
"Alex was there at one of the most pivotal times in British rock music, relentlessly observing while playing his drums all over the country. He’s lovingly and unflinchingly captured it all in this cool book- a great read"
Tim Thornton, author, The Alternative Hero & drummer, Fink

A compact and charming history of the beloved handcrafted font by the New York Times bestselling author of Just My Type.

Albertus, first carved on a bronze tablet in the 1930s by German Jewish refugee Berthold Wolpe, has proved to be one of the most enduring handcrafted typefaces in the world. It is at once modern and timeless, authoritative and whimsical—renowned as the typeface of London Street signs, David Bowie albums, and Star Wars movie posters. In this unique celebration, bestselling author Simon Garfield charts the story of the creation of Albertus, its innumerable and vibrant uses, and the erratic brilliance of its designer, as recounted by Wolpe's children. Through his exploration of this singular font, Garfield grapples with one of the most fundamental artistic questions: what makes great art not only survive but flourish in each new age and medium?

Loretta Lynn is a living legend. From walking around barefoot in clothing repurposed from flour sacks in rural Kentucky to becoming an icon with more awards than any other woman in country music, many may wonder just how Loretta Lynn paved this path for herself. While hard work, natural talent, and having certain people in her life surely contributed to her success, her story is so unique it seems as if it was written by fate.
A mother of six and now a grandmother to dozens, Lynn never lost sight of her values or what drove her. She had a calling to relay what was real and a desire to create a secure life for her family. She believes in horoscopes and is proudly an Aries; with her ambition and gifts, she could not be stopped. While Lynn is hesitant to call herself a feminist, her bravery and perseverance opened doors for many more women in country music. She also challenged stereotypes associated with the genre through living her beliefs about tolerance, honesty, and fairness.
This biography will explore the meaning and process behind some of her music and how the people and circumstances that shaped her led to her extensive list of awards and accolades. It will also seek to provide insight into how her world view, natural gifts, and personality traits drove her successes.

In this book, Stefan Zweig traces 12 fateful events of world history in his unique artistic style: from the capture of the Byzantine capital of Constantinople by the Turks, to the Battle of Waterloo to Sir Robert Falcon Scott's tragic South Pole expedition. The human character and sometimes simple fate are decisive historic factors that have led to dramatic and lasting changes in the past. Often short, coincidental and highly dramatic moments have the potential to change the future of mankind in a decisive manner – the so called ‘Great Moments of Humanity’. The original book has been published in 1927. “Sternstunden der Menschheit”. The audiobook is based on a new translation from 2021 by Philip Knüppel.

A pedagogical primer on integrating Black feminist thought, critical race studies, and America's most beloved pop star.

In 2010—long before the release of Lemonade—Professor Kevin Allred created the university course "Politicizing Beyoncé" to both wide acclaim and controversy. He outlines his pedagogical philosophy in Ain't I a Diva?, exploring the process of teaching Beyoncé and what it means to use a superstar to blow up the canon. Allred brings his syllabus to life by pairing music videos and songs with historical and academic texts, and combines analysis with classroom anecdotes. Topics range from a capitalist critique of "Run the World (Girls)" to the politics of self-care found in "Flawless"; Beyoncé's art is read alongside Black feminist thinkers, including Kimberlé Crenshaw, Octavia Butler, and Sojourner Truth.

Interrogating the entertainer's career through a media studies lens, Allred attests that pop culture is so much more than a guilty pleasure—it's an access point for education, entertainment, critical inquiry, and politics.
