Sinopse

Long before Erling Haaland, Thierry Henry and Eric Cantona, there was George Robledo, the first overseas star of English football. Abandoned by his father as a child in Chile, Robledo came to the UK, where he was raised in a Yorkshire mining village, serving underground as a 'Bevin Boy' during the Second World War prior to making his name with Barnsley. During the 1951–52 season, his thirty-three goals for Newcastle United in what is now the Premier League were the most goals scored in a single season by an overseas registered, foreign-born player, a record that has stood unbroken for over seventy years – despite what the record books might say.
Postcards from Santiago is the poignant, inspiring story of Robledo's remarkable journey from the moon-like wastes of the Atacama Desert to the cover of John Lennon's 1974 album Walls and Bridges, via Wembley glory and the 1950 World Cup in Brazil. Where, in England's first ever World Cup match, Robledo became the first Football League player from outside the British Isles to face England in an official international.
Featuring interviews with family, friends and admirers, this fascinating biography is the definitive account of a man who overcame immense hardship and heartache to become a sporting trailblazer in his adopted homeland and a national hero in his native Chile.

Sir Isaac Newton famously complained about “action at a distance.” How was it possible, he wrote, that gravity, or attraction, operated between objects without physical contact? Well, jump to the twenty-first century, and we have a lot more to say about that. Readers will enjoy a brilliant, outrageous, playful exploration of quantum physics in everyday life, from a secret interplay of TV plots with us, in electricity, to other speculations, founded in the author’s decades of initiations as well as being an original thinker and a scholar.
As in Einstein’s “Credo,” the author exemplifies: “The most beautiful and deepest experience [one] can have is the sense of the mysterious.”
Even more amazing is that you include the most subtle levels of existence that play a role in these processes. An Underground PRINCIPIA connects life purpose, spirituality, depth psychology, and quantum physics into one all-encompassing movement.

In this classic and far-ranging portrait of sisterhood Peterson explores a hilarious slumber party, a singing duo of sisters about to find their fame, a Zulu tribe of sisters, the chosen sisterhood of Isabel Allende and Tabra Tunoa, and the sisterhood of animals, such as dolphins and elehants. Weaving memoir, research, interviews, and lively storytelling, Peterson celebrates how the feminine can balance and restore our health and survival. Her well-told insights from psychology, mythology, history, and anthropology reveal the enduring alliance of sisterhoods—from childhood bonds to growing old together as Crones.

Vickie Morgan and her partner Josh had a wonderful relationship and were simply enjoying life with their son when they found out they were expecting again. Things were near about perfect and with an impending visitor coming in from North Carolina, Vickie scheduled her 20-week ultrasound a little early so they could have some privacy from her mother-in-law.
The scan showed a list of abnormalities and doctors at Maternal Fetal Medicine in Portland, Maine swarmed the room suggesting medical termination. Vickie asked the gender of the baby so she could at least pick a name for the baby they wanted her to say goodbye to.
The gender could not be determined so early and the couple assumed they were having a girl and picked the name Grace. Vickie had often seen families with children who had special needs and said “there but for the Grace of God go I” and apparently hers had run out.
After a non-invasive prenatal testing called the MaterniT21, Josh and Vickie found out they were in fact having a boy who had Trisomy 13 which shows up approximately 1 in 10,000 babies.
The strain on their marriage and their relationships with family and friends reached a breaking point over and over again. Navigating medical opinions and the stigma around children and people with special needs was at times, too much to comprehend.
This story cowritten by Vickie and Josh Morgan is one of hope and healing, pain and recovery. It explores the fractured relationships and brutal reality that expectant parents face when making life altering decisions that are often misunderstood and sometimes not supported by loved ones.
It’s a prenatal guide that goes so far beyond ‘What to Expect When You’re Expecting.” It’s one brave couple’s account of how they handled challenges they never could have imagined.
