Summary

“Leapfrogging is as much about the secrets of breakthrough leadership as it is about business innovation . . . loaded with fresh ideas and examples.” —Hans Middag, Director, Learning and Development, Randstad

In his trailblazing debut, Soren Kaplan gives business leaders the tools to do exactly what they’re taught to avoid: embrace surprise—the new key to business breakthroughs. Instead of fighting against uncertainty, Kaplan reveals how to use it to break down limiting mindsets and barriers to change the game. By highlighting specific ways to transform both good and bad surprises into unique opportunities, Kaplan encourages leaders to compete by embracing counterintuitive ideas, managing paradoxes, and even welcoming failure. This is the key to “leapfrogging” —creating or doing something radically new or different that produces a significant leap forward.

Leapfrogging connects new research, unconventional strategies, and practical tools for navigating the “messy” and elusive process of achieving business breakthroughs. Filled with real-world examples from innovators such as Gatorade, Intuit, Philips, Kimberly-Clark, Colgate-Palmolive, OpenTable, and Etsy, Kaplan shows that any organization or business function can leapfrog. Using his LEAPS process (Listen, Explore, Act, Persist, and Seize), leaders learn to seek out, recognize, and respond to surprising experiences and events as a way to create solutions that leap beyond the current expectations of customers, partners, employees, the market, and the competition. Kaplan’s Leapfrogging is the new handbook for the modern leader.

“Superbly crafted, powerful in its simplicity, offering smart, actionable learning . . . Finally, a simple, holistic model that allows for breakthrough thinking and living.” —Mary Beth Robles, Vice President, Colgate-Palmolive

“His campaigning for fearless innovation and flexibility is compelling.” —Publishers Weekly

In the later 2nd century BC, after a period of rapid expansion and conquest, the Roman Republic found itself in crisis. In North Africa her armies were already bogged down in a long difficult guerrilla war in a harsh environment when invasion by a coalition of Germanic tribes, the Cimbri, Teutones and Ambrones, threatened Italy and Rome itself, inflicting painful defeats on Roman forces in pitched battle Gaius Marius was the man of the hour. The first war he brought to an end through tactical brilliance, bringing the Numidian King Jugurtha back in chains. Before his ship even returned to Italy, the senate elected Marius to lead the war against the northern invaders. Reorganizing and reinvigorating the demoralized Roman legions, he led them to two remarkable victories in the space of months, crushing the Teutones and Ambrones at Aquiae Sextae and the Cimbri at Vercellae. The Roman army emerged from this period of crisis a much leaner and more professional force and the author examines the extent to which the 'Marian Reforms' were responsible for this and the extent to which they can be attributed to Marius himself.

I finally started writing WHEN I WAS 40: Overcame Some Challenges, Still Learning and Growing just before I turned 50. Around 2009 I had experienced quite a few memorable events, which prompted this title. I have taken pride in my accomplishments. I have had time to think about some decisions I made and challenges I faced. Many people in their 40's and 50's find themselves in a midlife crisis. Maybe something has happened, or something was done that caused a disruption in the home - a lost job, a lost business, bankruptcy, a failed marriage, a loved one's death, an empty nest, unfulfilled goals and dreams, and the list goes on. My disruption was a failed marriage. This book is about how God helped me through that time. He also had family, loved ones and prayer partners positioned to help me along the way. I have discovered that God doesn't waste any of my pain, even my self-inflicted pain. Each chapter describes my experience at age 40 and what I learned as I was reflecting and writing. Each chapter ends with reflection questions, the scriptures mentioned, a place to write what the reader has learned, along with a prayer. I have been very open and transparent because I finally learned to stop wearing masks. I feel like people need to know about my struggles so that they can discover how they can get through theirs. My goal is for this book to be a source of encouragement, inspiration and motivation for all who read it. Adults of all ages have told me that it has definitely helped them. In fact, I have all five-star reviews on Amazon and Barnes and Noble. This book is great for individual or a group Bible study. Anyone who has failed in marriage or any relationship can experience recovery, healing and restoration. I wish there was a way to combine the motivational/inspirational tone with the emotional tone. Certain parts need one and certain parts need the other.

This is the story of an ex-Royal Military Policeman, martial arts champion, and expert in close protection who found his way to the top of his profession, protecting the most famous woman in the world, Princess Diana. Through his assignment as protection for Mohamed and Dodi al-Fayed, he became guard and confidante to the Princess of Wales and the young princes, particularly Harry, and in Protecting Diana he details the weeks leading up to her tragic death.By chance, Sansum was not in Diana's car the night of the accident, but it still proved to be a turning point in his own life. His career would continue with some glamorous assignments like guarding Nicole Kidman, Tom Cruise, Pelé, and Sylvester Stallone, but his job was far from easy. He also joined the Royal Military Police, where he faced the deadly Irish Republican Army in the "Bandit Country" of South Armagh, before entering the world of private security and operating in hotspots such as Libya and Somaliland.Through protection of Princess Diana and his other high-pressure jobs where lives were at stake, Sansum provides a candid account of quiet strength, and how reading a situation is invaluable to getting out of trouble. He sets the example for achieving personal goals, overcoming trauma, and in doing so, honors one of the most outstanding figures of our age.
