Sinopse

Madame Bovary is the French writer Gustave Flaubert's debut novel. The story focuses on a doctor's wife, Emma Bovary, who has adulterous affairs and lives beyond her means in order to escape the banalities and emptiness of provincial life. Though the basic plot is rather simple, even archetypal, the novel's true art lies in its details and hidden patterns. Flaubert was a notorious perfectionist and claimed always to be searching for le mot juste ("the precise word").

Long established as one of the greatest novels ever written, the book has often been described as a "perfect" work of fiction. Henry James writes: "Madame Bovary has a perfection that not only stamps it, but that makes it stand almost alone; it holds itself with such a supreme unapproachable assurance as both excites and defies judgment." Giorgio de Chirico said that in his opinion "from the narrative point of view, the most perfect book is Madame Bovary by Flaubert".

I quit my job. I walked away from everything I knew. I couldn't lose anyone else. Not again. Working for James Martin wasn't supposed to be complicated or lethal. Too bad someone wanted him dead, and I was the only thing standing in the way.

When eccentric playboy CEO James Martin's life is threatened, he decides to hire Alexis Parker, an attractive, feisty, former federal agent, to be his new security consultant and personal bodyguard. As Alex attempts to navigate the minefield of potential suspects, she discovers an underlying conspiracy that has been brewing at Martin Technologies for almost half a decade. Anyone could be involved, making Martin's closest friends, acquaintances, and employees possible suspects.

What starts out as a single death threat quickly morphs into a plot to overtake his entire company. Once the pieces fall into place, things explode, both literally and figuratively. This outwardly simple case is something neither Alex nor Martin ever imagined. It will take all of Alex's training and instincts to track down the criminal mastermind and stop the assassination plot before it's too late, and even that may not be enough.

    O. Henry is an American writer known for his teaching and amusing short stories. His tales are very simple, but they are full of meaning. The writer’s main source of inspiration is life, that’s why these small masterpieces are so close to our hearts. The little story “Lord Oakhurst's Curse” is one of O. Henry’s earliest attempts at writing. It was sent in a letter to Dr. Beall of Greensboro in 1883. The story is fascinating and witty and of course it has a trick ending. God will repay each person according to what they have done. The tale is a proof of this famous proverb. Old rich Lord Oakhurst was dying. The life had never seemed so amazing to him before, summer day was bright and sunny. He was thinking about the wonderful day, when he made a proposal to his young wife. She was not fond this idea at first, but when she recognized how much he earns, she threw herself on to him and agreed. What a coincidence! Then Everhard Fitzarmond, famous physician, arrived. He drily certified death of the Lord and insensibly took some gold things from the castle. But the main character had some surprises or “curses” for people, who treated him badly. The tale will make you sure that the law of boomerang surely exists.A SmartTouch Media production.
