Sinopsis

WARNING: Contains sexually explicit scenes and a healthy dose of sarcasm. Adam 'Jenks' Jenkins' carefree life as a small-time private investigator is about to get very complicated. There's something 'off' about his new client, but work is hard to come by in the Welsh town of Llanrhos, and the return is far above his usual paygrade. All he has to do is find a mystery woman and retrieve a set of sexually explicit photographs. Sounds easy. Too easy. Jenks' sanity is tested as the case drags him ever deeper into the dangerous world of Veronica Tailor, where blackmail, seduction and threats of violence run rife. Even his home life is affected as his wife's obsession with Veronica sends her libido into overdrive. Will Jenks ever solve the case? Will his wife become a lesbian? Will he ever manage to get some sleep?

Humor essays from a radio host and syndicated columnist who is the “Erma Bombeck for a whole new generation of frazzled moms and dads” (Amy Carr, Daily Herald). Disguised as an average soccer mom, she’s faster than a speeding toddler, more powerful than a teenage temper tantrum, and able to leap loads of laundry in a single bound! Deb DiSandro is here to save the day. Her hilarious, heartfelt essays on the ages and stages of motherhood are sure to help families everywhere see the humor in their own foibles. From bringing home the new baby to dog training and the thermostat wars, Supermom has seen it all. She has negotiated peace over paint finishes, she has overthrown the powerful regime of the kitchen gadgets, and she has even pinned down the elusive wild teenager in the farthest reaches of suburban malls. But this mom is slightly off: she finds humor in her teenager’s unintelligible mumbling, in the dog’s flagrant disobedience, and in her husband’s merciless drive for the perfect dimmer switch.   “Deb DiSandro is not slightly off—she is straight on target. Her essays bubble with wit, freshness, and ever-so-real life.” —Jacquelyn Mitchard, #1 New York Times–bestselling author of The Deep End of the Ocean “Anyone thinking of committing to parenthood needs to read Deb DiSandro. Her humor and wisdom on the subject of child-raising may help you appreciate the many advantages of getting a Yorkie instead.” —D. L. Stewart, author of Paternity Ward “Deb DiSandro’s instincts about family life are sound and her perspective refreshing.” —William H. Doherty, author of Putting Family First

The tale of a handsome modern-day prince in the gutters of New York by the author of The Ginger Man—“a writer of explosive, winning imagination” (The New York Times Book Review).   After studying abroad in Europe, Cornelius Christian—born in Brooklyn and raised in the Bronx—has returned to New York City with a cultured accent, refined manners, and the corpse of his wife who died shipboard.   Charismatic but penniless, he takes a job with a funeral director to pay for the burial expenses. There, he meets the desirous and wealthy widow Fanny Sourpuss. But she’s only his first conquest—one that impels Cornelius on an adventure of rescue through Manhattan, from street brawls to calamitous affairs; from a hooker’s fury to murder; from the subway sewers of a dirty city to its towering castles. But how long can the acquired charms of the prince last, how long can he care, and who’ll be there to rescue him?   In Cornelius Christian, who sings of life’s goodness in the wake of disaster, J. P. Donleavy created one of his most indelible, infuriating, and irresistible characters—a “parody of the fairy tale hero, lusting after fallen princesses in honky-tonk New York” (The Harvard Crimson).   “No contemporary writer is better than Donleavy at his best.” —The New Yorker   “Fast, funny and addictive.” —The Guardian

This darkly humorous crime novel set in a Canadian ski town is a “fast-paced thrill ride” (Publishers Weekly).   Grey Stevens took over the family business after his uncle passed away, and now grows the best pot in Whistler, British Columbia. It’s called Eight Miles High and the word on the street is it rivals anything on the planet.   Happy to fly under the radar in this mountain playground, Grey just wants to take life easy, snowboarding in the cold months and biking in the hot ones. But demand for his pot among the locals and tourists keeps growing. Everybody wants to get their hands on it—including two rival gangs who come to town to take over the dope trade.   When Grey steps in and rescues a girl from a beating at the hands of one of the gang members, he finds himself in the middle of a turf war and a new relationship at the same time. After one of his roommates gets attacked and another goes missing, Grey has to decide whether he’s going to take off with the girl and start over someplace new—or stay and fight for what’s his . . .   “The dialogue is some of the sharpest and funniest I’ve seen in any book this year.” —National Post   “Kalteis will be deservedly compared to Elmore Leonard, but he is an original voice.” —John McFetridge, author of the Toronto Series   “A rollicking tour through Whistler after dark, populated by ski bums and scallywags, gang-bangers and lovable losers on both sides of the law, and written with a staccato, snare-drum energy that keeps the pages turning . . . Breaking Bad for the ganja set.” —Owen Laukkanen, author of the Stevens and Windermere series
