Sinopse

THE TIMES THRILLER OF THE MONTH

White Suicide spins a story of espionage, secrecy and revenge in the months and years following the kidnapping and subsequent assassination of Aldo Moro. Known to be one of Italy’s, and the Cold War’s, visionary leaders, Aldo Moro served as Italian prime minister for two terms in the 1960s and 1970s. Despite his visionary status, he was a risk to NATO due to his close connection to the Italian Communist Party (PCI). Moro was kidnapped on 16 March 1978, the day he was set to attend a vote of confidence for a coalition government with the PCI. He was later assassinated after 54 days in captivity.

Initially set in the anni di piombo (years of lead), a period of social and political turmoil in Italy that took place over twenty years, from the late 1960s to the late 1980s, the novel stokes suspicion about who was really behind Moro’s kidnapping and subsequent murder. The Red Brigades, CIA and P2 Masonic Lodge each have their hands drenched in this powerful retelling of modern Italian history.

Spanning the period from 1944–1987, with its dark heart being the perennially troubled Italian–American relationship, White Suicide is a fast-paced, gripping political thriller of conspiracy and intrigue that will delight readers of John le Carré, Dan Brown, David Baldacci and Michael Dobbs.

Praise for White Suicide:

‘A brilliant, sprawling, action-packed saga set against a fascinating and murky part of recent European history.’ Ray Celestin, award-winning author of the ‘City Blues Quartet’, two-time winner of the CWA Dagger Awards

‘White Suicide gripped me from page one, a modern thriller reminiscent of Eric Ambler that brings suspense, history and politics alive on the page. Not to be missed.’ Charles Glass, author of Soldiers Don’t Go Mad

‘Simon Gaul’s novel investigates the web of mystery as the Milanese lawyer Pietro Albassi finds himself acting as a go-between during the hunt for the missing politician. Gaul has fun revealing the hidden hands many believe lay behind events at the time. Among these were the Vatican and the CIA.’ James Owen, The Times

‘A slow burn epic ... truly thought-provoking and credible.’ Paul Burke, Crime Time FM

Herbert George Wells (21 September 1866 - 13 August 1946) was an English writer. Prolific in many genres, he wrote dozens of novels, short stories, and works of social commentary, history, satire, biography and autobiography. His work also included two books on recreational war games. Wells is now best remembered for his science fiction novels and is often called the "father of science fiction", along with Jules Verne and the publisher Hugo Gernsback.
MISS WINCHELSEA'S HEART: Miss Winchelsea was going to Rome. The matter had filled her mind for a month or more, and had overflowed so abundantly into her conversation that quite a number of people who were not going to Rome, and who were not likely to go to Rome, had made it a personal grievance against her.

Another nail-biter from best-selling author Willow Rose! It was supposed to be the happiest day of her life when her kidnapped daughter returned, but it wasn’t. Fourteen years ago, Clarissa Smalls was born, and a few hours later, she was taken from the hospital. Kidnapped. Her mother searched desperately for her for years, but she never found her. Until now. When Clarissa Smalls is suddenly found in the swamps of Central Florida, badly bruised and confused, it is cause for much joy and celebration in her family, especially with her mother, who has waited 14 years to see her baby girl again. Little did she know that this day would end up being the worst in her life. Because Clarissa doesn’t want to know about her mother, she refuses to talk to anyone, and won’t tell the police what happened to her. When another baby girl is kidnapped from the same hospital in the same manner, the police believe it’s the same kidnapper who took Clarissa. Suddenly, time is of the essence to make her answer the many questions that are piling up. Where was she for 14 years? Who took her? Why won’t she tell them who her kidnapper is? The FBI brings in former profiler Eva Rae Thomas to help them in this very peculiar case. Eva Rae Thomas knows the girl’s mother very well and is willing to go to great lengths to help her out, even though the two of them share an unpleasant history. Eva Rae Thomas’ sister recently came back into her life after being kidnapped 35 years ago, so the FBI hopes she can contribute with a deeper understanding of the situation and maybe get through to Clarissa. Little could she have known that soon she would wish that she never got involved in this, as the case becomes very personal for her.

A year after a devastating global meteor shower, botanist Dr. Elena Vasquez discovers something extraordinary in an Amazon impact crater: an impossibly beautiful alien flower with shimmering, otherworldly petals and an intoxicating fragrance. These "Astraflora" begin appearing worldwide, captivating humanity with their ethereal beauty and becoming a global obsession.
Marcus Chen, a San Francisco florist, becomes one of the first victims of what the flowers truly are—a sophisticated alien intelligence using beauty as a weapon. The Astraflora's golden pollen contains microscopic spores that infiltrate human nervous systems, causing rapid-onset dementia that transforms victims into zombie-like "Hollows" before their bodies explosively release millions more spores.
Despite warnings from Elena and CDC epidemiologist Dr. Sarah Williams, the world remains enchanted by the flowers until it's too late. The Astraflora spread exponentially through cultivation and natural dispersal, triggering a pandemic that collapses human civilization within months. Only one percent of humanity proves genetically immune to the spores' effects.
The immune survivors, led by Elena's research group, retreat to remote sanctuaries as cities fall silent and nature begins reclaiming the Earth. The Hollows become gardeners of the alien flowers, tending vast carpets of Astraflora that transform the planet's ecology. Over decades, the survivors learn that the aliens aren't destroyers but cosmic gardeners—an ancient intelligence that travels between worlds, helping species transcend their limitations or removing those that threaten planetary health.
Fifty years later, humanity has adapted to coexist with the Astraflora consciousness, developing symbiotic relationships that enhance human capabilities. Two centuries on, Earth has become a living paradise where humans and aliens form a hybrid consciousness, eventually making contact with a galactic network of similarly transformed worlds.
