Sinossi

Metabolism Guide explores the science behind how your body transforms food into energy, a process crucial for weight management, energy levels, and overall health. It dives into the factors influencing your metabolic rate, such as genetics, age, and lifestyle, revealing how these elements uniquely shape your metabolic profile.

Did you know that muscle mass is a key determinant of metabolic rate, meaning more muscle helps you burn more calories even at rest? Or that hormonal imbalances can significantly impact how efficiently your body processes energy? The book explains complex metabolic pathways in an accessible way, empowering readers to understand their individual needs and move beyond generic diet plans.

It emphasizes that metabolism isn't fixed but can be positively influenced through diet, exercise, and stress management. The guide progresses from basic bioenergetics and the roles of key hormones to the impact of lifestyle choices, offering evidence-based strategies for optimizing metabolic function.

Ultimately, Metabolism Guide aims to give you the tools to take control of your metabolic health, offering insights into calculating energy needs and designing personalized plans for a healthier lifestyle. By understanding how factors like nutrition, sleep, and stress impact metabolism, readers can make informed choices to boost their energy levels and prevent disease.

On February 1, the Columbia was due to land at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida at 09:16. Only a few members of the press were present to watch the landing - this was, after all, supposed to be a routine return from a routine mission, the 113th for the shuttle program and the 28th for Columbia, one of the oldest Space Shuttles.
Reentry into the Earth’s atmosphere is always the most dangerous part of any space mission. The intense heat generated as a spacecraft enters the thin upper atmosphere at immense speed can be potentially lethal, but the shuttle was designed to deal with this heat, and Columbia had successfully done it 27 times in the past. For the five men and two women on board and the members of the press present, everything seemed normal, but there was a measure of concern among those in the ground control team. The team was aware that Columbia had possibly suffered damage to the thermal tiles forming the heat shield on one wing soon after liftoff, but no one knew how extensive the damage was or even if it existed at all. There was also some disagreement about how serious it might be - some on the ground were concerned this might compromise the shuttle wing’s ability to resist the heat of reentry, while others were sure it was a minor issue that would have no serious impact on the mission. Videos of the launch had been exhaustively reviewed by engineers on the ground, but it was impossible to be certain of the precise level of damage to the heat shielding on the underside and leading edge of the wing.
There was no agreement on what should or could be done, so one thing was universally agreed upon: the crew would not be informed of the problem. There was nothing they could do to make repairs and no way to avoid reentry.

Organizations have more data at their fingertips than ever, and their ability to put that data to productive use should be a key source of sustainable competitive advantage. Yet, business leaders looking to tap into a steady and manageable stream of "actionable insights" often, instead, get blasted with a deluge of dashboards, chart-filled slide decks, and opaque machine learning jargon that leaves them asking, "So what?"

Analytics the Right Way is a guide for these leaders. It provides a clear and practical approach to putting analytics to productive use with a three-part framework that brings together the realities of the modern business environment with the deep truths underpinning statistics, computer science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. The result: a pragmatic and actionable guide for delivering clarity, order, and business impact to an organization's use of data and analytics.

The book uses real-world examples from the authors' direct experiences—working inside organizations, as external consultants, and as educators—to empower the listener to put foundational analytical and statistical concepts to effective use in a business context.

The Case of the Sexual Cosmos: Everything You Know About Nature is Wrong is the eighth paradigm-jolting book by the man Britain's Channel 4 TV calls the Einstein, Newton, Darwin, and Freud of the 21st century, Howard Bloom.
The Case of the Sexual Cosmos makes mincemeat of two of science's most cherished laws. And it tells you the tale of this cosmos, this planet, life, climate change, and your role and mine, from a meticulously researched point of view that will make your eyes pop.
Says the producer of seven BBC-TV science series including the classic Connections, James Burke, The Case of the Sexual Cosmos is "a triumph...full of surprises."
Declares MacArthur Genius Award winner Richard Foreman, The Case Of The Sexual Cosmos is "a massive achievement. Wow!"
Adds Harvard's Ellen Langer, The Case of the Sexual Cosmos is "a fascinating read.......[Bloom] argues that we are not savaging the earth as some would have it, but instead are growing the cosmos."
Concludes novelist Helen Zuman, The Case of the Sexual Cosmos pulls "us out of Greta Thunberg's self-hate machine" and shows that, "The true tragedy is not war or climate catastrophe. It's rejecting the exuberant flamboyance of exactly who we are."
