  The origins of Ancient Egypt trace back to a time when the Nile River served as the lifeline for scattered communities that gradually developed into one of the world’s first great civilizations. The unification of Upper and Lower Egypt around 3100 BCE marked a turning point, traditionally credited to King Narmer (also known as Menes). This consolidation of power not only brought political unity but also forged a shared identity among the people along the Nile, creating the foundation for the dynastic rule that would follow for centuries. 
  Geography played a central role in shaping early Egyptian civilization. The Nile River, flowing from south to north, provided a reliable source of water and fertile soil through its annual inundation. These floods deposited nutrient-rich silt on the riverbanks, enabling agriculture to flourish in an otherwise arid environment. Settlements grew along the river, connected by the waterway, which also served as a route for trade and communication. Natural barriers such as deserts and the Mediterranean Sea offered protection from external invasions, allowing Egyptian culture to evolve with limited outside interference in its formative years. 
  The Early Dynastic Period (c. 3100–2686 BCE) saw the establishment of the first centralized state under pharaonic rule. Kings were not merely political leaders but were also regarded as divine beings, intermediaries between the gods and the people. This belief in divine kingship helped maintain stability and order in a society where religion permeated all aspects of life. Temples, tombs, and other ceremonial structures began to emerge during this era, laying the groundwork for the grand architectural achievements of later periods.

  The Chera dynasty, one of the three great Tamil dynasties of ancient South India, played a crucial role in shaping the political, economic, and cultural landscape of the region. Their rule, spanning centuries, witnessed the flourishing of trade, literature, and governance, laying the foundation for Kerala’s distinct identity. Emerging during the Sangam Age, the Cheras established themselves as a dominant force in Tamilakam, with their influence extending beyond the Western Ghats into the Indian Ocean trade networks. 
  The origins of the Cheras remain shrouded in legend and early Tamil literary references. Sangam literature, including works like the Pattinappalai and Akananuru, speaks of mighty Chera kings who ruled with valor and wisdom. The dynasty’s association with Vanji (also known as Karur) as their capital city highlights their strategic control over the fertile lands of present-day Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The geographical advantage of their kingdom, with access to the Arabian Sea on the west and the lush inland regions, enabled the Cheras to engage in extensive maritime trade. 
  The early rulers of the Chera dynasty established their power through military conquests and strategic alliances. One of the most celebrated kings was Uthiyan Cheralathan, considered the first known historical Chera ruler. He is mentioned as a patron of poets and a formidable leader who controlled trade routes. His successors, Nedum Cheralathan and Senguttuvan Chera, further expanded the empire. Senguttuvan, famously associated with the Silappadikaram, a great Tamil epic, is credited with the introduction of the Pattini cult, honoring Kannagi, a symbol of justice and womanhood. His military campaigns against northern kingdoms and his patronage of Tamil culture reinforced the Chera dynasty’s prestige.

  Not all love is the same, which is one of the most peculiar truths in life. Your Love is as unique as the individual you feel it for. I think that’s one of the greatest paradoxes we will live through. It seems to me, there is little choice in how big it is, or how hard it hits. There’s no telling what it will do to you when you enter the arena, and that is why it can be a force we sometimes fight; because it has felt like a battle we’ve lost before. 
  Although it feels like you are powerless in Love, you aren’t powerless at the end of Love. You choose whether or not big Love crushes you, or if it shrinks for you to carry it in your pocket as a reminder of the greatness it once was. The desire to not be destroyed by Love is where I am. 
  This is a story of 14 days that coincided with my 40th birthday and a time I fell in Love. It was through a difficult turn of events that I got to step away from my uncomfortable life to experience turning 40 in Mexico; with someone I didn’t just love, but who I liked. So this is also a story about the importance of falling in Like. 
  For a long time I said if I ever shared this story, I’d have to call it fiction because it feels so personal. But eventually I realized it made more sense to just admit: it’s me. I’m the quiet naive girl in these pages who had barely begun to know herself and didn’t know how to communicate as well as she thought she did. I’m the one who was learning that Love can be complicated; while seeming simple to me. 
  One of the greatest lessons anyone learns, is knowing what it feels like to fall in love and experience connection. That was my greatest benefit; because I have been able to use that measure of connection ever since. One can break and fall apart in many ways, but it’s my opinion that until big love breaks you, a level of innocence remains. After that, you decide whether or not big love heals you. For me, it took this little trip of 14 days to finally benefit from the long journey of 40 years.
