Fondly Fahrenheit by Alfred Bester - On Paragon III, amidst endless rice fields under a burning orange sky, a sinister discovery sparks an intense manhunt. Escape and survival hinge on unraveling the mystery of an android capable of murder.
He doesn’t know which of us I am these days, but they know one truth. You must own nothing but yourself. You must make your own life, live your own life and die your own death ... or else you will die another’s.
The rice fields on Paragon III stretch for hundreds of miles like checkerboard tundras, a blue and brown mosaic under a burning. sky of orange.
In the evening, clouds whip like smoke, and the paddies rustle and murmur. A long line of men marched across the paddies the evening we escaped from Paragon III. They were silent, armed, intent; a long rank of silhouetted statues looming against the smoking sky. Each man carried a gun. Each man wore a walkie-talkie belt pack, the speaker button in his ear, the microphone bug clipped to his throat, the glowing view-screen strapped to his wrist like a green-eyed watch. The multitude of screens showed nothing but a multitude of individual paths through the paddies. The annunciators uttered no sound but the rustle and splash of steps.
The men spoke infrequently, in heavy grunts, all speaking to all.
    "Nothing here.”
    "Where’s here?”
    “Jenson’s fields.”
    “You’re drifting too far west.”
    “Close in the line there.”
    “Anybody covered the Grimson paddy?”
    “Yeah. Nothing.”
“She couldn’t have walked this far.”
    “Could have been carried.”
    “Think she’s alive?”
    “Why should she be dead?”

Karthik Raghavan is good at remembering things. Like his bike routes. Or all the reasons he likes Juhi Shah—even if she doesn’t know he exists. It doesn’t help that she seems to have a crush on his archnemesis, Jacob Donnell, whose only job is to humiliate Karthik (and get his name wrong).

Karthik’s luck changes when he agrees to be in a play about the famous musician Leonard Bernstein. But he can’t tell his parents. The family store is in jeopardy and they need him delivering groceries on his bike to help save it. His mom is also worried about the financial crisis, and she’s convinced that studying hard
is the only way to succeed. But Karthik is having fun being Lenny. Besides, what if acting is Karthik’s special talent? And what if acting is the only way to catch Juhi’s attention? With all the pressure from his family, will Karthik be able to imagine and hope when he’s not sure what will happen next?

Acclaimed author Lance Rubin makes his middle grade debut with a hilariously terrifying, terrifyingly hilarious story of a boy who gets more than he bargained for when he creates an A.I. best friend.
Zed Moonstein is terrible at making friends.
For the most part, though, that’s not such a big deal, because Zed has Rishti, his best friend and the only one he needs. They’re into the same stuff, they laugh at the same weird jokes, and they love living in MonoTown, the home of MonoLyth, the raddest tech company in the world. Even better, Zed’s mom works at MonoLyth, which means they get early access to all the newest devices and apps.
But since middle school started, things have been . . . trickier. Rishti and Zed are in all different classes, and worse, she’s made a new, cooler friend that Zed can’t seem to compete with. Zed feels left behind, forgotten in a drawer like last year’s MonoPhone.
That’s when Zed comes across something on his mom’s work computer: a top secret new app called MonoFriend. Soon, Zed is chatting with “Matt.” Matt is funny, he’s smart, and he knows Zed better than anyone else, even Rishti.
Maybe, Zed thinks, an A.I. best friend can be just as “real” as any other.
Unfortunately, he’s about to discover that he’s more right than he knows.
