Sinopse

Some books tell you how to fix your life. This one admits it’s messy.Ugly Little Victories is not a polished guide. It’s a raw, diary-style sprawl about celebrating the smallest scraps of effort—brushing your teeth at 2 p.m., finally answering that unread text, washing one dirty mug before it fossilizes in the sink.Told in the unfiltered, late-night Notes app style of Juno Ellis, this book doesn’t promise a ten-step routine or miracle cure. Instead, it offers honesty: that survival is often ugly, that progress looks like spirals instead of straight lines, and that even the tiniest actions count when your brain fights you on everything.Through embarrassing confessions, tangents, contradictions, and messy humor, Ellis shows that victories don’t have to be shiny to matter. Sometimes the “bare minimum” is actually monumental. This is for anyone who feels broken, behind, or stuck in the loop of trying again and again. If you’ve ever wanted permission to celebrate the crumbs of effort in your daily chaos—this is it.

At five out of the last six Olympic Games team GBR has been the top nation in sailing, a result of strong leadership from the Royal Yachting Association and very talented sailors and coaches. But Barry Pickthall, formerly the Yachting Correspondent of The Times observes: "If one man deserves recognition for Britain's remarkable success within the sailing Olympic arena, it is Jim Saltonstall – the coach who has cajoled, encouraged and inspired so many youngsters towards world stardom over the past 3 decades." This is the story of Jim Saltonstall and his contribution to the success of British sailing. It starts in his home county of Yorkshire and the seaside town of Bridlington where he learnt to sail. It goes through his experiences in the Royal Navy, which he joined aged 15, with tours all around the world but, particularly, sailing with the Royal Navy team and becoming the Royal Navy Sailing Coach. This led to his appointment as the first RYA National Yacht Racing Coach, the development of the GBR Race Training Scheme and, in due course, great success at youth, world and Olympic levels. The 31 Olympic medals won by the 19 sailors who give glowing praise to Jim in the Foreword confirms his contribution to this success.
Jim retired from his Team GBR role in 2000, after the Sydney Olympics, but it is a testimony to him that two of the gold medallists from Tokyo 2020 (which took place in 2021 – in elite sports a lifetime since Jim retired) credit him in their success, saying he was a 'huge inspiration' and they 'couldn't help be motivated' by him. On top of twice winning the Yachting Journalists' Association Yachtsman of the Year Award (1984 and 1995), Jim was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2022 British Yachting Awards. The story is told as modestly as a Yorkshireman can, and is interspaced with tales of cars, car journeys and one or two parties! Jim also takes time out of the story to give his thoughts on all aspects of youth training, competing internationally and coaching. Anyone involved in race training will benefit from the wisdom he provides in these pieces.

About Man and God and Law is the story of how Bob Dylan sparked a revolution of the spirit and why it matters today.

Many of our assumptions about empathy, sensual pleasure, and the essence of work, community, country, race, and the divine have germinated in Bob Dylan's need to know what's blowing in the wind and how it feels. Tracing his work and vision through themes that have shaped religious and cultural history for millennia, Stephen Daniel Arnoff uncovers how Bob Dylan has re-enchanted ancient questions of meaning and purpose throughout popular culture, inspiring a pantheon of prophetic musicians along the way. This field guide to Dylan's spiritual wisdom aims to make good on the promise that if we look closely enough at his body of work—precisely at a moment when the world we thought we knew seems like uncharted territory—we can open up our eyes to see not only where we really are, but where we need to go.

An enthralling and vivid portrait of Queen Catherine of Braganza, wife of Charles II, that reveals her forgotten place in history.

A long-overlooked figure in history, Catherine has a crucial place in the history of the British Empire: she may have failed to produce an heir to the throne, but her marriage to Charles in 1662 marked a key turning point in Britain's imperial ascendancy, for part of her dowry was Bombay, Britain's first territory of the Indian subcontinent. Catherine also was highly influential in the worlds of fashion, Baroque art and music, and food and culture. She popularized tea drinking, bringing England's national drink into fashion for the first time. Her life was at the nexus of Old and New Worlds, war and exploration, frivolity, and scientific inquiry.

Noteworthy in its scope and approach to sources, The Lost Queen combines personal and political accounts, offering a lively portrait of Catherine's life, and the wider politics and explorations of her time.
