Sinopse

Financial Regulations Importance explores the crucial role of regulatory compliance and supervisory bodies in maintaining financial stability within the banking sector and preventing economic crises. The book examines how banking standards are established and enforced, highlighting the real-world impact of these regulations through compliance case studies.Understanding these mechanisms is vital, considering that failures in even a single institution can rapidly spread across borders and impact entire nations, as seen during the 2008 financial crisis.

The book begins by introducing the core principles of financial regulation and the roles of key supervisory bodies. It then analyzes the evolution of banking regulations in response to financial innovation and past crises.Later chapters delve into specific regulations like capital adequacy and anti-money laundering measures, illustrated with practical compliance case studies.

What sets this book apart is its focus on the practical consequences of financial regulation, using compliance case studies to bring abstract principles to life. The book concludes with a forward-looking perspective, addressing challenges such as cryptocurrencies and the increasing complexity of global financial markets.

By combining regulatory documents, academic research, and real-world examples, the book offers a comprehensive and accessible understanding of financial regulations for students, professionals, and policymakers alike, emphasizing that effective regulation is a vital prerequisite for long-term economic health and social well-being.

Reality Therapy is a therapeutic approach that emphasizes personal responsibility and focuses on the present moment, encouraging individuals to make choices that align with their true desires and values. Developed by Dr. William Glasser in the 1960s, it diverges from traditional therapeutic methods by centering on the idea that behavior is a choice and that people can gain control of their lives through conscious decisions.
At the core of Reality Therapy is the concept that all behavior is purposeful and is driven by an individual's attempt to fulfill basic needs. These needs include survival, love and belonging, power, freedom, and fun. When people feel that these needs are unmet, they often engage in behaviors that are designed to satisfy them, even if those behaviors are not helpful or productive. Reality Therapy challenges individuals to evaluate whether their current behaviors are effective in meeting these needs and whether they are serving their long-term goals.
Another key aspect of Reality Therapy is the belief that individuals can only control their own actions. While external circumstances may influence a person's situation, the therapy stresses that the responsibility for behavior lies with the individual. This approach encourages people to focus on what they can change—namely, their actions—and to stop blaming others or external conditions for their problems. It promotes the idea that by changing one’s choices, it is possible to create a more fulfilling and responsible life.

Offers a philosophical perspective on the nature and value of writing a memoir.

Artful Truths offers a concise guide to the fundamental philosophical questions that arise when writing a literary work about your own life. Bringing a philosopher’s perspective to a general audience, Helena de Bres addresses what a memoir is, how the genre relates to fiction, memoirists’ responsibilities to their readers and subjects, and the question of why to write a memoir at all. Along the way, she delves into a wide range of philosophical issues, including the nature of the self, the limits of knowledge, the idea of truth, the obligations of friendship, the relationship between morality and art, and the question of what makes a life meaningful.

Written in a clear and conversational style, it offers a resource for those who write, teach, and study memoirs, as well as those who love to read them. With a combination of literary and philosophical knowledge, de Bres takes the many challenges directed at memoirists seriously, while ultimately standing in defense of a genre that, for all its perplexities—and maybe partly because of them—continually proves to be both beloved and valuable.

What are the founding principles of anarchism? What links the philosophy of Proudhon, who introduced this notion in France in 1840, to the act of the Italian Sante Geronimo Caserio, who assassinated President Sadi Carnot in 1894?
This introduction to anarchism helps us understand the issues and tensions that run through this movement, and to grasp why it could establish itself today as a response to the moral and economic crisis of contemporary societies.

In Unit 1 you will hear Greek decoded with each syllable spoken very slowly and clearly with repetition. Immediately before each sentence is spoken, you will hear the translation, so you will always understand what is being said.
Unit 2 focuses solely on increasing your listening ability, which will improve your abilities to engage in dialogue with a native Greek speaker. This chapter requires you to listen very carefully to nuances in the language.
By Unit 3 you will already notice progress in your abilities to speak and understand Greek. The spoken translation is followed by two repetitions in Greek at a completely natural speed. While you are learning to process naturally spoken Greek, Units 3 and 4 will help you memorise new vocabulary and full sentences.
In Unit 5 you can test yourself on how much you have learned. If you are having difficulties, we suggest you revisit the listening, speaking, or memorisation section of Units 1, 2 3 or 4, according to what you need more help with.

    The Will to Believe

"The Will to Believe" is a philosophical essay written by William James in 1896. The essay is a defense of the concept of religious faith and argues that belief can be justified even in the absence of objective evidence.
James argues that there are some beliefs, such as religious beliefs, that cannot be proven or disproven by empirical evidence. He contends that in cases where there is insufficient evidence to support a belief, individuals are justified in using their will to believe in order to hold on to what they consider to be important or valuable beliefs.
James also argues that the act of believing itself can have positive effects on an individual's life. Belief can provide a sense of meaning and purpose, as well as a framework for understanding the world. Furthermore, James contends that individuals who possess a strong will to believe are more likely to succeed in achieving their goals, as they are more motivated and focused.
"The Will to Believe" was a controversial work in its time, and it continues to be debated by philosophers and scholars today. While some have criticized James's arguments for promoting irrationality and dogmatism, others have praised his defense of personal autonomy and individual freedom of thought. Overall, "The Will to Believe" is an important contribution to the ongoing philosophical discourse on the nature of belief and faith.
