Sinopse

Census History unveils the profound impact of population data collection on societies, demonstrating how counting people has shaped governance, taxation, and social policies across civilizations. From ancient tallies used for taxation and military conscription to modern statistical analyses, the book traces the evolution of the census. Intriguingly, census data is not merely a neutral reflection of demographics; it actively shapes political landscapes, influencing electoral apportionment and resource allocation.

The book progresses historically, examining early census efforts before exploring the development of modern methods in England, France, and the United States. It then analyzes the political ramifications, such as gerrymandering, and the societal impact on healthcare, education, and housing.

By challenging the unquestioned authority of official statistics, Census History encourages a critical examination of how population data is collected, interpreted, and utilized, making it a valuable resource for understanding the intersection of data, governance, and society.

You've read White Fragility and How to Be an Antiracist, but what comes next? The answer lies in this clear, actionable guide providing an invaluable four-week program for becoming an ally who makes a real difference in the racial justice fight.

Black women have always been the driving force behind real change in this country—especially when it comes to racial justice work. But they shouldn't have to do it alone. If you're ready to stop standing on the sidelines and become anti-racist instead of passively "not racist," then this book is what you need. You'll discover: how to have difficult conversations about white supremacy, racism, and white privilege; how to listen to criticism without defensiveness; why it's harmful to ignore race or claim to be colorblind; and how to expand your racial justice circle by joining groups led by Black women and cultivating a group of like-minded allies.

Racism can only be defeated if white people educate themselves and actively engage in antiracism work, especially in their inner circles. With this book, you'll learn how to change from someone who defends and protects racism to someone who fights against it. And you'll become an example to others that true allies are made, not born.

It can be argued that Roman culture was, indeed, Graeco-Roman rather than Roman. It was the Greek language that served as the lingua franca in the Eastern Empire and much of the west including Italy. Many Greek intellectuals, including Galen, were based in Rome and the Roman aristocracy more and more came to embrace Greek literature and philosophy. Homer’s epics inspired Virgil’s Aeneid and Seneca wrote in Greek. Earlier, Scipio Africanus (236 – 183 B.C.), the epitome of the Roman martial hero, studied Greek philosophy and regarded Greek culture as the benchmark against which all others had to be judged. The Roman poet and philosopher Horace studied in Athens during the Principate and, in common with many of his class, saw that city as the intellectual centre of the world.
In the minds of most people today, Gaul equates to modern France. However, the vast geographical area that Caesar named Gaul, in fact, was made up of a number of very distinct regions and covered, in addition to modern-day France, Belgium, Luxembourg, parts of the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland and Northern Italy. The Romans called the northern area of the Italian peninsula, which is now part of modern Italy, Cisalpine Gaul, or Gaul on this side of the Alps. Early Romans did not even consider this region as part of Italy and repeated incursions southwards, and the sacking of Rome itself in 390 B.C., resulted in Rome taking full control of the area in 221 B.C. and thoroughly Romanizing it to the extent that even the Celtic language totally disappeared and was replaced by Latin. The region was initially a province but by the beginning of the 1st century B.C., it had become fully integrated into the Roman heartland and became an administrative region of Italy rather than a province.

Oliver's well-researched biography of Mansa Musa echoes the style of an exotic tale of gold, glory, and adventure. During his long reign as Mali's emperor, Mansa Musa led his empire into its Golden Age; presided over a spectacular, 60,000 person, 9,000 mile pilgrimage; founded a university in Timbuktu; and helped revolutionize architecture across the Sudan. Many of the African ancestors of today's African-Americans came from West Africa. From 700 -- 1600 A. D., one after the other, three great, black, commercial empires dominated West Africa. They were powerful, prosperous, complex, stable -- and large. At its height, the Empire of Mali was the size of all of Western Europe.Well-crafted and fast paced, Oliver's book did not only clearly portray Mansa Musa's triumphs and dilemmas, but also the lives of the people of medieval Mali.

Why Most People Will Never Be Great
The world we are living in today is a toxic place. Modern society is soft, unfit, and mentally weak.... And there is so much dissatisfaction with life.
If you're reading this, I know you probably want more from life.
Save Yourself From Destruction - The Spartan Way
The Spartans will be forever known as strong warriors, with a simple philosophy of life. Their heroic legacies live on through films and stories. But modern society has fallen far from them.
We are now infected with worriers, wimps, and whiners. Of course, we no longer live in the days where our heads could be decapitated by an axe-wielding enemy. But there are still wars to fight. Not wars against armies, but wars against our demons and struggles.
There is a lot to learn from the Spartans.
They were born with nothing in a harsh world thousands of years ago. But that didn’t mean they would become no one. By building a better mind, body, and living the Spartan way, you'll become a stronger and a better person for this life.
Whether you're an executive seeking to climb the ladder or a student pushing towards better grades. You could even be a parent looking to guide their children.
This book will help to succeed, make you stronger, and teach you much more.
