Sinopse

'We hadn't a clue till we got the telly and then we wanted to be like dallas. We were never happy, that we knew of. We were always longing for something else, so we kept doing the same.'
Standing in Gaps turns back time and transports the reader to a place where everything moved slowly – and in the Leitrim of the '60s, '70s and '80s, that means really slowly.
In this memoir about rural Ireland, family, people and time, award-winning playwright Seamus O'Rourke finds diamond tipped needles in bales of really bad hay, turning the mundane into magic and providing much hilarity and mayhem for his many fans along the way.

Exile Child is an unforgettable historical audiobook inspired by the life of Sarah Baartman, the South African woman whose voice was silenced by history. From a rural homeland to 19th-century Europe, her story reveals resilience, survival, and the fight for dignity.
Narrated with emotional power by Malika Ndlovu, this moving novel blends historical truth with vivid storytelling — perfect for listeners who love powerful women’s fiction, biographical novels, and untold stories of courage.
"Exile Child is a historically correct flesh-and-blood portrayal of one of our most tragic heroines." - The Sowetan Newspaper
"Expect to feel anger and indignation as you realise the inhumanity Sarah had to ensure, but Franco's account, although hard-hitting, is thoughtful and sympathetic." - The Cosmopolitan Magazine
"Exile Child gives a harrowing and absorbing account of Sarah's incredible life." - The Herald Newspaper
“Exile Child tells the sad and tragic true story of Sarah Bartmann, a young Khoisan woman living in the 1800’s, who involuntarily became the most terrible victim of colonialism and racism, simply because of her physical attributes.” - African Reporter Newspaper
"Exile Child collates all that is imaginable and creates a story that is highly emotive." - City Press Magazine
“Exile Child gives readers a window into the depths of prejudice and racism, and a very real depiction of this heroine who lived more than a lifetime ago. A truly inspiring read.” - Proud Magazine
"The story of Sarah Bartmann, through Exile Child is in safe hands." - The Thabo Mbeki Foundation

"When people ask why I joined the Coast Guard, I respond that I was twenty-two, blond, and fit. In most military services that is guaranteed sexual harassment. Why not join the one with the ocean breeze?"
Caroline's journey from enlisted Coast Guard member to CIA analyst includes boot camp, Hamptons yachters named Gary, meaning making in Guantanamo Bay, and a session with a Veterans Affairs-assigned therapist who has fourteen cats, one of which cures migraines. She takes you from serious topics of sexual harassment and suicide to laughing about how her predator's moment to make her prey was oddly interrupted. You are a fly on the wall during her botched FBI polygraph and will be scratching your head about her CIA classmate who U-turns during their surveillance-detection training like she just saw a sign for a sale at Macy's.

The Irish nana is a repository of family history, memory and lore. Sometimes, like the Italian nonna, she is also a 'walking cookbook', carrying the old knowledge of how things were best done.
Alice's own grandmothers, Nana Taylor and Nana Ballyduane, were the first generation after the Great Famine, born in the 1860s. These women taught their families the Irish traditions and habits of homemaking that survived for centuries, and are now almost gone.
Now Alice herself is a nana too, and this book takes us through three generations and almost a century and a half. She explores the old and the new, the 'then' and 'now', the nana of yesteryear and of today, with her characteristic empathy and love.
