Sinopse

Most scholars accept that Habakkuk was written by a prophet called Habakkuk sometime during the Neo-Babylonian Era, or earlier during the late Neo-Assyrian era when the Babylonians were in revolt. Given that the rebels were not the ancient Chaldeans, but a branch of the Assyrian royal family, it seems unlikely that anyone would have referred to the rebels as Chaldeans. After the Assyrian empire had fallen, the rebel royal family in Babylon embraced the ancient Chaldean identity in order to cement their control over Babylonia, following which the remnants of the Assyrians in Babylonia were referred to as Chaldeans. The Book of Habakkuk is considered unique among the books of the bible, as Habakkuk openly questions his Lord’s actions, which in the Masoretic version of the book, means he is questioning God. In the Septuagint’s version, his Lord was not necessarily God, as Habakkuk was either a polytheist or someone speaking to polytheists. As Habakkuk must have lived while the Chaldeans were around, he either lived before Abraham, when the original Chaldean people ruled Babylon, or during the Neo-Babylonian Empire, sometime between 626 and 539 BCE. There is nothing in the book of Habakkuk that indicates he lived in the 3rd millennium BCE, and his mentioning of the Kushites and Arabs is consistent with the political geography of the Neo-Babylonian Empire, when the Kingdom of Kush was backing the Egyptians against the Babylonians, and the Babylonians were trying to conquer the Arabs.Habakkuk’s writing describes the Neo-Babylonians riding out and conquering the world, which was a description of the Neo-Babylonian Empire during King Nabopolassar’s reign, between 626 and 605 BCE, and during the reign of his son Nebuchadnezzar II, between 605 and 562 BCE. After Nebuchadnezzar II’s reign, the nobles of the Neo-Babylonian empire turned on each other, the self-declared “Chaldean” Dynasty lost power, and the empire slowly became weaker until Cyrus II of Persia conquered them in 539 BC. If the Babylonian Empire was rapidly expanding in Habakkuk’s time, then he had to have been prophesying between 626 and 562 BCE, and yet his prophecy is not consistent with the religious reforms of King Josiah, who, beginning circa 632 BCE, banned the worship of all gods in Judah, other than his version of Yahweh.

"No Place Like Home" is a touching Victorian-era novella by Hesba Stretton, known for her socially conscious stories aimed at children and young adults. The narrative follows Clara, a young girl who is forced to leave her home and navigate the harsh world outside due to unfortunate circumstances. Separated from the comfort and safety of her family, Clara faces adversity but also learns valuable lessons about kindness, perseverance, and the true meaning of home.
Stretton’s story highlights the social issues of the time, particularly focusing on the challenges faced by impoverished children and the importance of charity and Christian values. The title itself reflects the central theme—that "home" is not just a physical place, but a sanctuary filled with love, security, and belonging. Clara’s journey shows how, even in the most difficult situations, human compassion and faith can provide hope and guide one back to a place of emotional and spiritual safety.
In this novella, Stretton uses her storytelling to evoke empathy for the struggles of children in the Victorian period, drawing attention to the importance of family and community in overcoming life’s hardships. No Place Like Home remains a relevant exploration of what truly defines "home" and continues to resonate with readers of all ages.

The early church in Corinth was falling apart. Sin was rampant, divisions were growing, and the congregation was living no differently than the world around them. What had corrupted this once vibrant church? The apostle Paul immediately understood the symptoms: The people had traded God's perfect wisdom for faulty human knowledge. Be Wise guides us through Paul's first letter to the Corinthians, where he encourages his fellow believers to embrace a life of wisdom and truth.
Part of Dr. Warren W. Wiersbe's best-selling "BE" commentary series, Be Wise has now been updated with study questions and a new introduction by Ken Baugh. A respected pastor and Bible teacher, Dr. Wiersbe shares a wealth of insights on living wisely.

Jonathan Edwards, often referred to as America’s greatest theologian, lived from 1703-1758, and was used by God in the American Great Awakening. This sermon warmly encourages every person to make the same kind of effort that Ruth made in leaving her people and country to join herself to God and his people in Israel.Edwards used a variety of things to stimulate the unbeliever toward faith and repentance, such as: the goodness of God, the happiness of his people, the misery of turning back as Orpah did, and the earnest desire of God’s people for every hearer to be saved. By these things, the hearer is strongly urged to match Ruth’s resolve: to be steadfast and determined until he also is joined to God and his people. This audiobook is read from Edwards’ original text with only a few minor changes to make it more understandable to the listener.
