Sinopse

Historical fiction, martial arts and romance unite in this epic story of intrigue, good and evil, ancient prophecies and justice.

Believing his father was responsible for the death of his mom, Cage's anger turns to fury when his father disappears. Faced with being a ward of the state or finding him, Cage starts with nothing except a backpack of his father's items. One artifact opens a time travel portal, and Cage is transported to the Forbidden City of medieval China, taking his sister with him. Captured by the fourteen-year-old Ming Emperor, Cage uses his wits and martial arts skills to fight his way to lead the elite forces. Entrusted with the safety of the Emperor, Cage accompanies him to the Jade Palace, thwarting an internal assassination plot while being framed by the Minister of War. Taken by the Admiral of the Fleet for execution, Cage unwittingly unleashes his powers of raising the dead and commanding the seas. Even after saving the Admiral, Cage is imprisoned as the Minister of War focuses on gaining what Cage has: innate powers used to alter history and change the course of human events.
Out of time and options, Cage is aided by his one-time adversary and would-be killer to delay the inevitable invasion of the Forbidden City. Eventually captured, Cage and his father are tortured, rescued by his first love, a woman he can save, but not without tremendous sacrifice. A week from adulthood, death and sacrifice meet to transform a reckless, angry teenager to a man who will change the face of the world.

"Sarah masterfully weaves the major and minor storylines with real, historical characters that literally changed the face of China alongside her unique, fascinating and multi-dimensional, fictional characters," said Foster. "In this first installment, she takes the time necessary to establish the foundation for a saga. It's great book and we're going to make a great movie franchise out of it."
—Lucas Foster, Warp Entertainment, producer of films including Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Law Abiding Citizen, Bad Boys, Jumper, Man on Fire, Crimson Tide.

In this fiercely authentic tale from the author of The Man Who Cried I Am, a gifted novelist confronts the powerfully entrenched, profit-motivated forces of corporate racism When his military service ends at the close of World War II—a period that will continue to haunt him throughout his life—Cato Douglass resolves to pursue a writing career and follows his dream to New York City.   Soon, his first novel is published, and it appears his dream has been fulfilled, enabling him to travel the world, fall in love, marry, and start a family. But despite possessing a talent that shines brighter than that of many of his literary contemporaries, Cato discovers that he is trapped within a racist system. Only a handful of black writers receive the support of white editors and critics, and because Cato’s work pushes the boundaries set by the publishing industry, he is doomed to a life of obscurity.   The Chicago Sun-Times proclaimed !Click Song “a major novel by one of America’s finest living writers.” Winner of the 1983 American Book Award, John A. Williams’s enthralling chronicle of a writer’s lifelong struggle to matter is a blistering tale of art, industry, family, and race.

An unnamed Visitor travels to Berlin with a camera looking for reckonings of her own. The city itself is a character-vibrant and postapocalyptic, flat and featureless except for its rivers, its lakes, its legions of bicyclists. Here in Berlin, she encounters a people's history: the Cuban teen taken as a POW on a German submarine only to return home to a family who doesn't believe him, the young Jewish scholar hidden in a sarcophagus until safe passage to England is found, the female lawyer haunted by a childhood of deprivation in the bombed-out suburbs of Berlin who still defends those accused of war crimes, a young nurse with a checkered past who joins the Reich at a medical facility more intent to dispense with the wounded than to heal them, and the son of a zookeeper who fights to keep the animals safe from both the war and an increasingly starving populace. Bringing the people of this famed city to life, critically acclaimed novelist Cristina Garcia aligns the stories of the past w ith those of the future

A killer is on the loose, targeting victims with an elusive connection that young barrister Daniel Pitt must deduce before more bodies pile up, in this intricately woven mystery from New York Times bestselling author Anne Perry. A serial killer is roaming the streets of London, and Daniel Pitt’s university chum Ian, now a member of the police, is leading the search. The murders happen on rainy nights, but Ian knows that the victims must have something in common beyond the weather. He turns to Miriam fford Croft, Daniel’s good friend and now officially one of the first female pathologists in London, to tap her scientific knowhow to find details he and Daniel have missed. With Miriam involved in the murder investigation, Ian passes to Daniel the case of Nicholas Wolford, their former university professor. Charged with assault after reacting violently to an accusation of plagiarism, Wolford, a proud, boastful man, is loath to admit that he was in the wrong. But Daniel must defend him—whether he likes it or not. As the murders continue with no clue as to who is committing them, Miriam, Daniel, and Ian find themselves questioning everything. Is the “Rainy-day Slasher,” as the newspapers have dubbed the killer, really just one person? Or have the investigators stumbled into a more complicated web of deceit? The answer may lie closer than anyone could have expected.

A woman’s life is forever changed by a hurricane on a Gulf Coast island in this “evocative parable of people living the good life on the edge of the abyss” (The Washington Post).   In the mid–nineteenth century, the wealthy find relief from the New Orleans heat on the barrier island of L’Ile Dernière. But when a cataclysmic storm arrives and leaves devastation in its wake, young Chita barely escapes with her life. Presuming that her father, a Creole businessman, has been swept away, she takes refuge on a nearby island where she is adopted by a Spanish family, changing the course of her future.   Written during a ten-year stay in New Orleans and inspired by true historical events, Chita was Lafcadio Hearn’s first novel. It is filled with rich description, beautiful language, and emotion, and evokes a true sense of the location and the era.
