Sinopse

In "My Double Life: The Memoirs of Sarah Bernhardt," the legendary actress offers a captivating glimpse into her extraordinary life, blending personal reflection with vivid storytelling. Written during a time when theatrical arts were transforming, Bernhardt's memoir employs lyrical prose that resonates with the melodrama often found on stage. The narrative not only chronicles her rise to fame, highlighting her groundbreaking roles and the dynamic world of 19th-century theatre, but also delves into her struggles, passions, and the complexities of her identity, revealing the multifaceted nature of the woman behind the theatrical persona. Sarah Bernhardt (1844-1923), often regarded as the first international star, broke barriers in a male-dominated field, renowned for her powerful performances and distinctive voice. Her dedication to her craft, combined with her personal experiences of loss, love, and resilience, shaped her artistic vision and fueled her passion for storytelling. These elements are vividly reflected in her memoir, which serves as both an autobiographical account and a critique of societal norms regarding gender and creativity during her era. I highly recommend "My Double Life" to readers interested in the intersections of art, gender, and identity. Bernhardt's reflective prose invites readers to not only appreciate her theatrical legacy but to also engage with her profound insights into the life of an artist transcending her time.

My Secret Life is an anonymously penned memoir written during a period from the 1840s to the 1880s by a wealthy and sex obsessed English gentleman who refers to himself simply as ‘Walter’. Part confessional, part investigative erotic journalism, it meticulously documents every detail of the author’s prolific sexual encounters, offering us in the process an eye and thigh opening account of life behind closed doors in the Victorian age.

Women, in both mind and body, were the all consuming object of Walter’s interest. From early youth through to old age his quest for erotic discovery and adventure with them was never diminished.

Unlike contemporary 19th century erotic texts, such as The Pearl, whose sole object was to titillate, Walter’s interest in his subjects did not end with the extinguishing of the carnal flame. His hunger to understand the circumstances and minds of the women he encountered is never upstaged by the sex. Their potted life histories, their most intimate desires and acts were shared with him and in turn meticulously recorded by him, written down verbatim while still fresh in his mind.

The resulting poignant record of a lost era and the intimate moments of the women who inhabited it offer us a remarkable insight into the 19th century that cannot be gleaned from any other source.

The complete unabridged text is being released as a fully scored audiofilm (an audio book with accompanying music soundtrack) by film composer Dominic Crawford Collins.

Considering my suicide, I stared out a window in Maryland and saw that rain blurred colors in a parking lot. The shame of being sexually abused caused recurring nightmares, and a life that became a complex facade of covers, military titles and secrets never told. In this book, published poet and author Adam Volant shares his own testimony of brokenness and success, rising from childhood abuse to flag officer in the military’s most specialized cyber operations. Centered on a poem written in the depth of his darkness, this honest portrayal illuminates a hurt that many harbor inside. After years of attempting to cover, reconcile, and cope with years of abuse, frail lies tied to alcohol and drugs pointed to his death. Reading No More Secrets will help unravel how horrible things can be used to draw us nearer to a more important truth.

'A wonderfully engaging, honest and witty portrait of the humiliations, idealism, nobility and banality of democratic life' - Rory Stewart, author of Politics on the Edge'Wryly self-deprecating, but also informative and illuminating' - Matt CooperAs Ireland's Minister for Housing, Eoghan Murphy took on one of the toughest briefs in government, one that continues to be a challenge today. Looking back at his life in the build-up to parliamentary office and at his time in the cabinet, Eoghan brings a self-lacerating and deeply personal view of the life of a modern politician trying - and often failing - to make the positive change he hoped to deliver. Brutal and sometimes harrowing, Eoghan's tale is also surprisingly funny, though the humour is only ever at the author's expense. If, in the end, all political careers end in failure, why didn't anyone tell the author that? There are no heroes or villains here, just a person facing their own limitations as they navigate the unfamiliar world of campaigns, elected office and government responsibility.Bringing refreshing candour to the pressures and absurdity of politics, this book shows us who our politicians really are when there's nothing left to spin and no one there to spin it to.

This is the audiobook of Part 1 of my memoir, My Amazing 35 Year Journey Abroad which I am reading to you myself. Voila! I open the book at a time in my life when I was living in an unheated garage in the dead of winter in Chicago and that came about because of my alcoholism. The year was 1981 and I was 28 years old. By this time in my life I had been kicked out of college, fired from 2 jobs including being fired by my father for crashing my company car drunk, divorced once with another one on the way, and I was broke and jobless. I would then pick myself up and brush myself off and get hired as a stockbroker by Dean Witter Reynolds. I would then blow that great opportunity by, you guessed it, abusing alcohol, and after working for 3 different brokerage houses, I would then quit drinking, start my modeling career, take an inadvertent 1 week ski trip to Austria, and then decide not to get on that return flight to Chicago, but instead would take a train from innsbruck to Nice, France where I would work as a model and actor, and then after a few months in Nice, I would move to Paris where I would live for 6 or so months, and then because of a suggestion from a photographer during a job there, I would end up flying to Singapore where I would work as a model and actor there, then after about 6 months there, I would end up moving to NYC to study acting and work as an actor there, and during my day job, I worked as a skate guard at Rockefeller Center where I would work with LIberace during his show there celebrating the skating rinks 50th birthday and there are photos in the book to prove it. Then from NYC I would move to Hong Kong where I would work as a featured actor in 4 movies, including a role in Kickboxer. I would then move to Bangkok, Thailand where I would start my nudie photography career and become the most prolifice photographer of naked Asian girls in the world. It is now 2024 and I am still in Thailand, retired here at the age of 70.
