The Battle of Waterloo, fought on June 18, 1815, near the village of Waterloo in the United Kingdom of the Netherlands (present-day Belgium), was a decisive conflict that ended the Napoleonic Wars. The battle pitted the French army, led by Napoleon Bonaparte, against two powerful forces from the Seventh Coalition. One of these was a British-led coalition under the command of the Duke of Wellington, which included troops from the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Hanover, Brunswick, and Nassau. The other force was a larger Prussian army commanded by Field Marshal Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher. Together, these forces effectively crushed Napoleon's ambitions and marked the final chapter in his reign. The battle was also known as the Battle of Mont Saint-Jean (to the French) or La Belle Alliance (to the Prussians).
The events leading to Waterloo began when Napoleon returned to power in March 1815, following his exile to the island of Elba. His return prompted his former enemies to form the Seventh Coalition, a group determined to prevent his resurgence. The British and Prussian armies were stationed along France's northern border, preparing for a possible confrontation. Napoleon, keen to defeat his enemies before they could join forces, planned to strike at each army individually. On June 16, he attacked the Prussian army at the Battle of Ligny, inflicting a significant defeat, which forced the Prussians to retreat northward. However, the Prussian retreat was conducted in good order, and they maintained contact with Wellington's forces, who were stationed nearby.

'I was filled with apprehension about crossing the front line, but I would have risked my life to save just one child. Ivan was giving me a chance to save them all…'
This is the extraordinary work of Sally Becker, a humanitarian aid worker who for over three decades has risked it all in order to help the children of war.
Where Angels Fear to Tread is a reminder that – with determination, unrelenting passion and drive – one person can change the lives of so many.
In May 1993, Sally Becker went to Bosnia to help the innocent victims of war. She started by delivering humanitarian aid to the region, and was soon hailed as the 'Angel of Mostar' for rescuing wounded children and their families from the besieged city. Sally continued her work throughout the conflict and is credited with saving many lives.
When President Milosevic ordered his troops into Kosovo, her missions continued, this time on foot across the mountains. While attempting to bring sick and wounded children and their families to safety, she was captured by Serb paramilitaries, but neither this nor being shot by masked gunmen in Northern Albania could make her abandon her task.
Bosnia was Sally's first mission and the beginning of her lifelong commitment to help rescue children caught up in some of the most horrific wars around the world, including missions to help children in Iraq, Ukraine and most recently Gaza.
Her account provides a rare and invaluable insight into the complexities of international aid work, the shocking reality of life on the front lines and the desperate race to save innocent children trapped in war zones.
    This is her extraordinary story.
Sally Becker's autobiography, a compelling narrative of her life in the service of others, is set to be the latest bestseller in non-fiction. Her memoirs, steeped in tales of charity and social welfare, underscore the power of individual action amidst the often sluggish responses of government institutions.

A story about a young and devious lesbian mistress and her older slaves
At a football game, I tried to get some distraction and go to the bathroom just to freshen myself up a little bit, when I encounter a young woman there shamelessly sitting on the toilet in plain view. Without a word, something about her was drawing me in and before I knew it, I found myself kneeling on the floor between her legs, pleasing her eagerly with my tongue.
Even though I tried to do my best, I wasn't sure if it was good enough for my younger mistress, but when I finally got my own reward right then and there, it was more than I had ever expected.

Are you curious to learn what set Russia on its present-day course?
The Russian Revolution is a perfect example of how history can contract and become exceedingly dense and complex. Untangling the Russian Revolution (in fact, Russian revolutions) must start by considering events that happened centuries before February 1917. Only in this way can we understand the multitude of events compressed into the short months of the decisive year 1917.
The Russian Revolution, apart from the Chinese Revolution, is perhaps the biggest social experiment the world has ever known. Suddenly, millions of people found themselves living in a country led by fervent Marxists who had grand plans not only for their country but also for all humanity.
Finally, the Russian Revolution continues to shape global politics, with modern-day Russia built directly on the ruins of the great Communist revolution.
In this audiobook, you will learn about:The early days of the Russian Empire, the legendary Ruriks, and how Russians accepted Christianity. The radicalization of social movements, personified in the typical anarchist, Sergey Nechaev.Bloody precursors of the Russian Revolution, such as the assassination of Emperor Alexander II by anarchists. The inert and anachronistic Nicholas II Romanov who unwittingly contributed to his empire’s downfall.Fervent, feverous, and audacious Vladimir Lenin who led the revolution toward its radical turn in October 1917.The chaos of the Russian Civil War and the birth of war communism and the Red Terror. The aftermath of the Revolution: Lenin’s sudden illness and the political struggles of his successors. The rise of Stalin, who would lead the USSR into its most glorious and horrifying moments.

As algorithms become increasingly adept at accessing the human mind, they also become more and more powerful at controlling it, enticing us to buy a certain product or vote for a certain political candidate. Some of us say this technological trend is no big deal. Others consider it one of the greatest threats to humanity. But what if the truth is more nuanced and mind-bending than that?

In Mindmasters, Columbia Business School professor Sandra Matz reveals in fascinating detail how big data offers insights into the most intimate aspects of our psyches and how these insights empower an external influence over the choices we make. This can be creepy, manipulative, and downright harmful, with scandals like that of British consulting firm Cambridge Analytica being merely the tip of the iceberg. Yet big data also holds enormous potential to help us live healthier, happier lives—for example, by improving our mental health, encouraging better financial decisions, or enabling us to break out of our echo chambers.

With passion and clear-eyed precision, Matz shows us how to manage psychological targeting and redesign the data game.
