An open system allows both energy and matter to flow in and out, while a closed system permits energy transfer but not matter exchange. An isolated system, in contrast, does not exchange either energy or matter with its surroundings. 
  Thermodynamic properties are categorized as extensive or intensive. Extensive properties, such as mass, volume, and total energy, depend on the amount of substance present. Intensive properties, like temperature, pressure, and density, do not depend on system size and are uniform throughout a system in equilibrium.

Drawing on over six years of deep research, Rose brings into view the historic impact that government support for HBCUs has had on the American political landscape, arguing that they have been essential for not only empowering Black citizens but also reshaping the distribution of political power in the United States. Today, HBCUs remain extremely important, as evidenced by the outsized number of black political leaders—including Kamala Harris—who attended them. Rose stresses that policymakers promote democracy itself when they support HBCUs and their unique approach to postsecondary education, which includes a commitment to helping students develop politically empowering skills, promoting political leadership, and fostering a commitment to service.

  The Byzantine Empire existed for over a thousand years, with a history spanning from the division of the Roman Empire in 395 until the Ottoman conquest of Constantinople in 1453. It was formed from the previous Eastern Roman Empire, and during its long existence, the Byzantine inhabitants were very proud to call themselves Romans.  
  	However, many things changed during the long lifespan of the Byzantine Empire, starting with its Hellenization in the 6th century. The use of the Latin language diminished and Greek took its place, while the typical Roman culture gave way to a more Hellenistic one. The Hellenization of Byzantium was detrimental to the relationship with the Holy Roman Empire, and the Christian world from that point would be split in two. The subsequent strengthening of the Orthodox Church caused many civil wars and conflicts to arise during the centuries, which shattered and reshaped the territory time after time. By the end of the Byzantine Empire’s existence, the old age had weakened both the state and church, making it an easy target for invading forces.  
  	The most notable invaders were the the Turkish-speaking Seljuks, led through a series of battles by Kutalmishouglu Suleiman, who supported different usurpers against the Byzantine emperor. The expansion of the Seljuks was so successful that when Suleiman died, he had put all of Bithynia under his control as well as several important harbor towns along the shores on the Asian side of Bosphorus. With that accomplishment, he had managed to separate the Byzantines living in Anatolia from their emperor in Constantinople. This immediately weakened the unity of the Byzantine Empire.

  Personality disorders are complex mental health conditions that affect the way individuals think, feel, and behave, often leading to difficulties in relationships, work, and daily life. Unlike temporary mood swings or behavioral patterns influenced by stress, personality disorders are deeply ingrained and persistent, typically emerging in adolescence or early adulthood. These disorders shape a person’s worldview, emotional responses, and interactions with others, often resulting in distress for both the individual and those around them. 
  Personality is a unique combination of traits that influence how a person perceives and responds to the world. In individuals with personality disorders, these traits become rigid and maladaptive, making it difficult to function in a socially acceptable or emotionally stable way. The severity of symptoms can vary, but in many cases, individuals struggle with emotional regulation, self-image, and interpersonal relationships. Some may withdraw from social interactions due to deep-seated mistrust, while others may exhibit erratic or impulsive behaviors that create conflict. 
  Personality disorders are categorized into three clusters based on shared characteristics. Cluster A includes disorders that involve odd or eccentric thinking and behavior, such as paranoid and schizotypal personality disorders. Cluster B consists of dramatic, emotional, and erratic conditions, including borderline and narcissistic personality disorders. Cluster C encompasses anxious and fearful disorders, such as avoidant and obsessive-compulsive personality disorders. While these clusters help in understanding the broad patterns of personality disorders, individual experiences can differ significantly.
