Sinopse

In "Common Cause," Samuel Hopkins Adams weaves a compelling narrative that explores the intersection of morality, social justice, and the complex dynamics of American society in the early 20th century. Written in a style characterized by its incisive prose and vivid character development, the novel delves into themes of corruption and reform, reflecting the Progressive Era's urgent calls for change. Adams utilizes an engaging blend of realism and social commentary, inviting readers to confront the ethical dilemmas faced by his characters, who grapple with the ramifications of their choices in a rapidly evolving world. Samuel Hopkins Adams, a prominent journalist and novelist, was deeply influenced by the muckraking movement of his time, which sought to expose societal injustices and promote reform. His firsthand experiences in investigative journalism impart a rich authenticity to "Common Cause," as he critiques the corporate greed and moral ambiguity prevalent in American life. Adams's firm belief in the need for social responsible activism spurred him to create a narrative that serves not only as entertainment but also as an urgent call to action. This powerful work is highly recommended for readers interested in the moral complexities of modern society and historical fiction that confronts social issues head-on. A killer is on the loose, targeting victims with an elusive connection that young barrister Daniel Pitt must deduce before more bodies pile up, in this intricately woven mystery from New York Times bestselling author Anne Perry.

A serial killer is roaming the streets of London, and Daniel Pitt’s university chum Ian, now a member of the police, is leading the search. The murders happen on rainy nights, but Ian knows that the victims must have something in common
beyond the weather. He turns to Miriam fford Croft, Daniel’s good friend and now officially one of the first female pathologists in London, to tap her scientific knowhow to find details he and Daniel have missed.

With Miriam involved in the murder investigation, Ian passes to Daniel the case of Nicholas Wolford, their former university professor. Charged with assault after reacting violently to an accusation of plagiarism, Wolford, a proud, boastful man,
is loath to admit that he was in the wrong. But Daniel must defend him—whether he likes it or not.

As the murders continue with no clue as to who is committing them, Miriam, Daniel, and Ian find themselves questioning everything. Is the “Rainy-day Slasher,” as the newspapers have dubbed the killer, really just one person? Or have the
investigators stumbled into a more complicated web of deceit? The answer may lie closer than anyone could have expected.

The Navy would not allow this book to be printed unless certain changes were made and I had to call it a work of fiction. The time is 1960; the setting; the Mediterranean Sea, a hotbed of the so called Cold War. that was getting even worst in its intensity. It follows the adventures of a crew that flew on board the Navy's first nuclear bomber the P2V-7 Neptune Patrol Bomber. It gives you, the reader, a behind the scenes look at the anti-submarine intelligence gathering, surveillance, and exercises from the perspective of one crew. To this day some of the events never happened and some of the systems used were later banned by the United Nations. There was a 70 million candlepower searchlight as well as the Julie system which was mentioned. With its earthy humor, Deployment gives an idea of their cool bravery as well as revealing some of the events that did occur were mentioned. Times, dates and locations were purposely kept out.

Downtown Los Angeles, 1990. Alone in her luxury hotel suite, the reclusive Lacey Crane receives a message: Edith is waiting for her in the lobby. Former best friends, Lacey and Edith haven't spoken to one another in over four decades.

As young adults meeting at summer camp in Maine, and later making their way in the glitzy spotlight of postwar Hollywood, Edith and Lacey share a deep-rooted bond that once saved them from isolation and despair, providing comfort from the public and private traumas that they had each endured and which a newly optimistic world was eager to forget. Told through a continuous, twisting conversation that unfolds over the course of a single evening, in which each woman tells her story and reveals long-hidden secrets, the narratives of Edith and Lacey burn with atmosphere, mystery, resentment, and regret.

Set against the vivid landscapes of Los Angeles and unfolding with the evanescence of a dream or a memory, Goldenseal peels away the layers of an intimate female friendship to reveal a stirring and haunting story about the search for connection and the lingering echoes of lost love.
