Summary

"Sniper Tactics" explores the evolution of precision shooting, its impact on military history, and how the sniper's role reflects shifts in military strategy and technology. From early sharpshooters to modern special operations forces, the book traces the development of sniper tactics alongside advancements in firearms, optics, and communication. One intriguing aspect is the psychological dimension of sniping, highlighting the intense mental fortitude required for precision shooting under extreme stress. Furthermore, the adaptation of sniper tactics in response to changing battlefield conditions, such as the development of anti-materiel rifles, showcases the dynamic nature of military innovation. The book provides both a historical overview and a detailed examination of contemporary sniper operations.

Beginning with early uses of sharpshooters and the impact of technological advancements, it transitions to the 20th and 21st centuries, focusing on the role of snipers in major conflicts like World War I, World War II, and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. By drawing from primary source accounts, military manuals, and interviews, the book offers a comprehensive understanding of the equipment, skills, and tactical applications involved in sniper warfare.

Unable to make the 1908 Pennsylvania German Society's annual gathering due to illness, their president-- businessman, religious leader, and politician, John Wanamaker--sent in a message he recorded "through this wonderful invention of Mr. Edison on the Edison phonograph." This recording recalls an anecdote of Leo Tolstoy's, in which the Russian writer stopped at the roadside and asked a farmer who was ploughing, "Friend, what would you do today if you knew positively you would die tomorrow?"

John Wanamaker (July 11, 1838 - December 12, 1922), born in Philadelphia, was a religious, civic, and political figure, as well as, founder of one of the first American department stores. He was considered a proponent of advertising and a "pioneer in marketing." In addition, Wanamaker served as U.S. Postmaster General from 1889 to 1893 during the term of U.S. President Benjamin Harrison.

Probably you have read of the great successes of certain men who have made such wonderful and astounding names in the history of the world. Such men, whether they consciously or unconsciously knew the secret of their powers and successes, made themselves famous by unfolding their super-conscious minds.
Now the super-conscious mind contains all the secrets of occult and magnetic power. Napoleon, who was a master of the super-conscious state, used to obtain practically eight hours rest in fifteen minutes by looking intently at a dark spot on the walls of his room.
Now this super-conscious state is called by the Hindus "samadhi" or super-consciousness. I will give you the principal secrets of this state and how to enter into it so that you may develop psychic power. There are many methods to do this with, but they are not practical and most of them are so mystical that the majority of sensible people would be foolish to think even of doing them for they are dangerous. I think that the so-called trance states should be left alone, especially with the beginner.
Every night for at least a week, just before you retire, or better just before you fall asleep, give to yourself this suggestion: "I will unfold super-consciously." Now, in a few days you will find that you are actually thinking and acting super-consciously; this is the secret of Napoleon's power.
This exercise that I am going to give you will enable you to go into the super-conscious state, but you will have to practice and practice to do it. For if you do not you will merely hypnotize yourself.
There are what might be termed three bodies in man: First, the conscious, then the thinking body, and then the causal body. If you succeed--and you should do so--in entering into this causal body, you may levitate your body, accomplish materialization, and also astral body travelling and projection.
