Sinopse

Flanking Maneuvers explores how military forces have historically achieved victory against superior numbers through the strategic use of flanking maneuvers. This cornerstone of military strategy involves attacking an enemy's side or rear, exploiting weaknesses and creating tactical advantages. The book examines the strategic thought, tactical execution, and technological influences that determine a flank's success, highlighting the enduring significance of this tactic from ancient times to modern warfare.

The book traces the evolution of flanking tactics, beginning with classical warfare and moving through the Napoleonic era to today's mechanized assaults. A key argument is that successful flanking requires understanding terrain, enemy psychology, and logistical capabilities—not just brute force. Effective flanking can demoralize enemy forces by creating surprise and disrupting their lines of communication.

Organized thematically and chronologically, the book progresses from defining flanking principles to analyzing case studies of historical battles. It culminates with a discussion of modern applications and challenges, offering valuable insights for military professionals and strategic thinkers alike.

“A poignant, powerful, inclusive, and deeply personal journey to meet the Great God Anubis. Filled with solid historical information, as well as practical contemporary rituals, magick, healing practices, and prayers, this book drew me in, opened my heart, and made me love dear Anubis even more.” —Michael Butler Smith, author of Embracing Isis   Anubis is Egypt’s original Lord of the Dead. That title was eventually transferred to Osiris, but even then, Anubis continued to be the most active participant in the after-death process, supervising rituals that determined what would befall the dead soul. He is credited as the inventor of mummification. A shrine to Anubis, one of the most significant gods of ancient Egypt, was discovered within Tutankhamun’s tomb. The image of Anubis has evolved into a veritable symbol of ancient Egypt.   Usually identified as a jackal or as a jackal-headed man, Anubis’s domain extends beyond death—he is a guardian of children and travelers and a finder of lost things. Anubis’s adopted mother, the goddess Isis, became popular outside Egypt, with temples in Rome and as far as the British Isles. As her guardian, Anubis traveled with her. He is as modern as he is ancient, appearing in comic books, video games, and in the book American Gods and its television adaptation. In modern times, Anubis has emerged as a sacred patron of mediums and occultists.   In this practical guide to working with Anubis, author Charlie Larson focuses the spotlight squarely on the jackal-headed god. Steeped in history and mythology, Anubis—Ancient Egypt’s Lord of Death and Protection features devotional practices and modern worship that includes rituals, prayers, invocations, correspondences, altars, and epithets. The book leads the reader on a journey of exploration into all things Anubis, delving into his various facets—death deity, psychopomp, and protector.

This highly readable illustrated biography on the Percy Tenantry Volunteers has been written with exclusive access to the current Duke of Northumberland's treasure trove of archive records. This book is for anyone interested in military history, especially Revolutionary and the Napoleonic war period, and for those looking at the local history of Northumberland, and especially Alnwick Castle.
The history of Britain's conflict with France between 1793 and 1815 is well documented. Nevertheless, one aspect that has scant coverage, is that of the role of Volunteers. In 1798, afraid of impending invasion by France's all-conquering armies the British desperately needed to defend their shores. To The Call of Bugles reveals, for the first time, how among those who stood forward in Home Guard style military bodies, there was no finer example than that of the valiant Percy Tenantry Volunteers, created by the 2nd Duke of Northumberland, General Hugh Percy. This amateur body of men, 1,500 strong, consisting of cavalry, artillery and riflemen, was put together, trained, armed, dressed and operated by General Hugh Percy. This book provides stories from the original volunteers, an in-depth understanding of how such a corps was organised and reveals how they were fashioned into an elite and innovative fighting force.

    Psychosocial Therapy -...

Psychosocial therapy is a holistic approach to mental health care that emphasizes the interconnectedness of psychological and social factors in promoting well-being and recovery. Unlike traditional approaches that primarily focus on symptom management through medication or isolated psychotherapy, psychosocial therapy addresses the broader context of an individual’s life. It explores how relationships, community involvement, cultural background, and socioeconomic conditions influence mental health outcomes.
At its core, psychosocial therapy recognizes that mental health is not only a biological or psychological issue but is deeply intertwined with social and environmental factors. Individuals do not live in isolation; their experiences, interactions, and external circumstances shape their mental health. For instance, unemployment, family dynamics, discrimination, or access to social support can significantly impact a person’s emotional resilience and ability to cope with life’s challenges.
The primary goal of psychosocial therapy is to empower individuals to navigate these complexities while building skills, resources, and support systems that foster sustainable well-being. By addressing both personal and societal dimensions, it bridges the gap between internal struggles and external influences. This dual focus ensures that therapy is both deeply personalized and contextually relevant, making it particularly effective for individuals from diverse backgrounds.

To the ancient Egyptians, the gods and goddesses were all around them and could be seen daily in nature. Nearly every animal found in ancient Egypt, both domestic and wild, were associated with a god or goddess, which can be seen in Egyptian art where deities are often depicted with human bodies and animal heads. Or sometimes the deities are portrayed as complete animals. Since deities were associated with certain animals, all animals of a specific species were given divine and protected status. The reverence that ancient Egyptians had for certain animals evolved during the long duration of Pharaonic history until by the Late Period animals of specific species were mummified by the thousands as offerings for their associated deities.
Ancient Greece and its mythology has fascinated people for thousands of years, and few elements have intrigued people quite like the Eleusinian Mysteries, which the Greeks believed transformed the initiates and gave them knowledge that eased both the living of life on earth and allayed fears of death, allowing an acceptance of their ultimate fate. The influence of the Eleusinian Mysteries was also far reaching; for example, the Telesterion is reminiscent of the labyrinthine, symbolic structures that can be found all over pre-historic Europe, ranging from those in Ireland to Malta and Crete to the Shetlands. The larger precinct of Eleusis, combining as it did caves, terraces and buildings carved into the rock again, all echo that ancient past.
The cult of Mithras was not a creation of the Romans, although they would eventually add their own rituals and mysteries to the ancient religion. In fact, the Mithraic religion was an Indo-Persian creation, a theology which managed to travel from India and back into the Hellenic and Roman world by way of Alexander the Great’s conquest of the Persian Empire. Eventually, the cult of Mithras would spread across the ancient world.
