Sinopse

We’d been planning it for months, a weekend getaway just for the ladies of Coffee and Cake, an online social group of women that had come to form a very strong bond over the years. Thirteen of us, that is, until one of us died on night one of our trip. Secrets are revealed, suspicions are levelled, and accusations are made. Can an online group of women really be true friends or is it all just a lie they have spent an age imagining? The murder of one of their own could tear it all apart and for one member in particular, Babette Martin, her very freedom may depend on finding the real killer. A web of lies, far too many instances of turning a blind eye, and the arrogance of one woman could tear apart the entire group. Far more is at stake and the very sanity of one member could be in peril. Are online relationships the same, or as good as real life relationships, and can a group of women really truly be friends? Babette is about to find out, she just has to survive the ordeal first.

Spring 1941. It is the third year of war, and when the siren sounds the people of Cambridge trudge to the city's public bomb shelters. Crowded, smoky, often raucous, the shelters have become a way of life for the poor. At dawn the body of a young man is found in a shadowy corner of the Trinity Shelter, one of three on the city's great open space - Parker's Piece. Detective Inspector Eden Brooke searches the body and finds no wallet or papers, save for a cinema ticket dated six months earlier. PC Vanessa Hill - a recruit to The Borough police from Girton College - uses her skills in fine art to sketch the dead man's face for a poster. An autopsy reveals the only clue to his death is the wound left by a hypodermic needle in the back of his neck. Brooke has a very puzzling case on his hands.

"The Crooked Man", one of the 56 Sherlock Holmes short stories written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, is one of 12 stories in the cycle collected as The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes. Doyle ranked "The Adventure of the Crooked Man" 15th in a list of his 19 favourite Sherlock Holmes stories.
Holmes calls on Watson late one evening to tell him about a case that he has been working on, and also to invite him to be a witness to the final stage of the investigation. Colonel James Barclay, of The Royal Mallows based at Aldershot Camp, is dead, apparently by violence, and his wife, Nancy, is the prime suspect. The Colonel's brother officers are quite perplexed at the Colonel's fate, as most of them have always believed that he and Nancy were a happy couple. They have observed over the years, however, that the Colonel seemed more attached to his wife than she to him. They have also noticed that the Colonel sometimes had bouts of deep depression and moodiness for no apparent reason.
