Sinopsis

When the world stops cheering, when the lights fade and bones break, what drives an athlete to rise again?

The Comeback Code unpacks the extraordinary true stories of ten legendary athletes who faced career-ending injuries—and returned, not just to compete, but to redefine what’s possible. From shattered limbs and near-amputations to emotional collapse and public doubt, these athletes didn’t just heal—they transformed. Through vivid storytelling, emotional insight, and a deep dive into the physical and psychological toll of injury, this book explores what lies beneath the surface of resilience.

Each chapter brings a different battle: some waged in rehab rooms, others in the silent war within the self. Together, their stories reveal a deeper code—a set of truths about grit, identity, recovery, and the choice to rise again.

Whether you’re an athlete, a fan, or someone facing your own version of a comeback, this book invites you to ask: What would it take to get back up when everything tells you to stay down?

This is not a book about pain. It’s about power—the kind that isn’t always visible in the highlight reels.

The Highs. The Heartbreaks. The Hangovers.
The Personal. The Vulnerable. The Downright Absurd.
    IT'S TIME TO RELOAD.
As was widely predicted, our first book, The Good, The Bad & The Rugby – Unleashed, did not win a Pulitzer Prize. It did, however, scoop Sports Entertainment Book of the Year at the 2025 Charles Tyrwhitt Sports Book Awards (and sold quite a lot of copies), so here we are again, back for a sequel.
What more have we to say? It’s a fair question. Hask can mine more new material from a trip to the supermarket than most people can from an entire lifetime – and you won’t be surprised to learn that he hasn’t just been hanging around Asda since our last book came out. He recently turned 40, he’s been through much personal turmoil, he’s done an awful lot of DJing – and he’s had a lot of arguments. Expect much of that, and even some thoughts on rugby, in the following pages.
As for Tins, you’ll find out about his early days in rugby, how he had to fight to make it, what he thinks of the state of the game, and his plans to get it back on track. Meanwhile, Alex will tell you all about his career in broadcasting, from making (‘disgusting’) tea and coffee, and presenting some of the greatest rugby matches in history, to getting binned by Sky.
We should end by begging you to pardon our previous flippancy. It was, of course, lovely to win that award, as well as very surprising. In fact, The Good, The Bad & The Rugby will never stop surprising us, and its continuing success is largely down to you – our wonderful listeners, viewers and now readers. We do hope you enjoy what follows and that you keep coming back for more.
Winners of the Charles Tyrwhitt Sports Book Awards 2025 Sports Entertainment Book of the Year, for their previous book The Good, The Bad and The Rugby – Unleashed.
In this non-fiction sequel, Haskell continues to share his humorous memoirs, diving deeper into his personal turmoil and his journey into the world of DJing. His candid revelations, coupled with Tins insights into the state of rugby and Alex's broadcasting career, make this an up-coming bestseller.
For fans of Rachel Murphy (Loose Head), Luke Upton (Hard Men of Rugby), Peter Crouch (How to Be an Ex-Footballer), and Jonny Wilkinson (Jonny).

This book contains 2 titles, which are:
    - Fitness Tracking: The concept of tracking fitness isn’t entirely new—athletes have long relied on basic tools like stopwatches and pedometers to monitor their performance. However, the digital age has elevated this practice to unprecedented levels. Modern fitness trackers, ranging from wearable devices to smartphone apps, provide comprehensive insights into various aspects of health, including heart rate, activity levels, sleep quality, and calorie consumption. These technologies have become accessible to the average person, democratizing fitness knowledge and enabling users to make informed decisions about their health.
    - Fitness on the Go: Traveling can often disrupt our usual routines, and one of the first things many people sacrifice while on the go is fitness. However, staying active during your travels is not only possible, but it can also be incredibly rewarding. Fitness on the go is about making small adjustments to your routine that allow you to maintain your health, improve your energy, and help you stay balanced no matter where you are. This chapter will explore the benefits of staying fit while traveling, how to overcome common barriers, and how to set realistic fitness goals while on the move.
Fitness during travel is not just about physical health; it’s also about mental well-being. Engaging in regular exercise can help reduce the stress and anxiety that often accompany travel, especially with tight schedules, time zone changes, or unfamiliar environments. Staying active releases endorphins, the body’s natural stress relievers, helping you stay relaxed and focused. Moreover, travel workouts can improve your sleep quality and keep your energy levels high, making your trip more enjoyable and productive.

    Game Changers - Stories of...

In every era, athletes have pushed the boundaries of what is possible within their sports, but some have gone even further, breaking societal and cultural barriers in ways that extended far beyond the field. These trailblazers were not just pioneers in athletic achievement; they were agents of change who challenged and changed the status quo.
One of the most significant ways athletes have broken barriers is by overcoming racial and gender inequalities. The barriers that existed in sports were often a reflection of the larger societal issues of their time. In the early 20th century, racial segregation in professional sports was common. For African American athletes, simply getting the chance to play was an act of defiance. Jackie Robinson's entry into Major League Baseball in 1947, when he became the first African American to play in the MLB, was a defining moment in the fight against racial discrimination in sports. Robinson’s courage on the field changed the landscape of professional sports and helped to dismantle segregation both in athletics and in society.
Similarly, gender barriers have been a significant challenge for female athletes. For many years, women were excluded from participating in major competitions, and the sports they were allowed to play were often seen as inferior. However, athletes like Billie Jean King, who defeated Bobby Riggs in the infamous "Battle of the Sexes" tennis match in 1973, helped to elevate women's sports and demonstrate that women were just as capable of excelling at the highest levels. King's victory wasn’t just a win in sports—it was a victory for gender equality and a powerful symbol of the struggle for women's rights.
