Sinopsis

Rudyard Kipling's "Ultimate Collection (Illustrated)" is a comprehensive anthology encapsulating the author's diverse literary output, ranging from poignant short stories to epic poetry. This collection is vividly illustrated, enhancing the rich tapestry of Kipling's vividly drawn worlds. It reflects his literary style, characterized by a masterful use of language, rhythmic prose, and deep exploration of themes such as imperialism, colonialism, and human nature, set against the backdrop of the British Empire during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Each work invites readers into a realm where the exoticism of far-off lands collides with intricate moral dilemmas, promising insights into both the grandeur and the pitfalls of civilization. Rudyard Kipling, a product of the British colonial experience, lived in India during his childhood, a formative phase that instilled in him an appreciation for diverse cultures and a profound understanding of colonial dynamics. His experiences led him to pen stories that encapsulate both the allure and the challenges of colonial life. Awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1907, Kipling's work resonates deeply with the complexities of his time, offering a distinctive voice that has continued to inspire generations. This collection is an indispensable resource for scholars, students, and anyone with an appreciation for classic literature. It invites readers to explore timeless themes through a rich lens, making it both a nostalgic trip into the past and a relevant commentary for today's readers. As a journalist and author, John Lazenby has spent more than forty years chronicling the tales of others. But for much of his life he closely guarded his own compelling story – a long and challenging struggle with childhood dyslexia, unable to read or write at a time when neurodiversity was rarely considered or recognised. Sent away to boarding school at the age of seven, John's future pivoted on the life-changing intervention of a teacher who finally understood the boy whom no one else could teach.
In this warm and poignant memoir, John traces his misadventures through the unforgiving education system of the 1960s, when illiteracy was viewed as a character defect that could be rectified by stern discipline and regular beatings, and takes us on an evocative visit to the not-so-distant past, introducing the kind and eccentric family who never gave up on him – and the array of teachers who did.
We follow the intrepid progress of a boy who could write only one word – his name, spelled backwards – to a man who finally found his true calling after a series of setbacks and false starts, only to make the late discovery that he had travelled through life unaware of a second neurodiversity, hiding in plain sight. Heart-warming, hilarious, raw and shocking, NHOJ is a tribute to overcoming challenges, ignoring barriers and holding on to hope in a world that initially seems to have no place for you.

'Four million quid. There it was, inches away from me on a hotel table. Not in conventional currency, but in the world's deadliest commodity. Heroin.' As part of Scotland Yard's undercover team, it was Peter Bleksley's job to infiltrate some of the capital's most dangerous gangs and bring them down. For ten years, he went deeper into the criminal underworld than any cop had before him. Meeting with dealers, gangland leaders and members of the IRA and the Mafia, he lived the life of the Great Pretender, constantly changing his identity to ensure his cover was never blown. Whilst undeniably thrilling work at times, it came at a heavy price. The more successful he was at bringing criminals to justice, the longer the list of those who wanted revenge became. Even now, Peter looks over his shoulder in case someone should wish to act on an old threat. In The Gangbuster, Bleksley draws us into the world of drugs, violence and covert operations he inhabited for so long in the pursuit of justice. Now a renowned policing and crime expert seen on the BBC and as the Chief on Channel 4's Hunted, Peter Bleksley reputation still precedes him the world over.

There is something about the number 3.

The Ancient Greeks believed 3 was the perfect number, and in China 3 has always been a lucky number, and they know a thing or two.

Most religions also have 3 this and 3 that and, of course, in these more modern times, three’s a crowd may be too many, except when it’s a ménage à trois. It seems good things usually come in threes.

Whatever history and culture says WE think 3, a hat-trick of stories, is a great number to explore themes and literary avenues that classic authors were so adept at creating.

In The Torture of Love, the second volume of The Revisionist series, Michael A. Delitala guides readers through a deeply emotional journey of love, heartbreak, and self-discovery. Rather than focusing on the individuals from his past, the narrative explores the recurring patterns that define these relationships. Each person represents a different emotional cycle that keeps him tethered to familiar habits—until he learns to break free. This memoir isn't just about romance; it's about the growth that comes from recognizing and breaking emotional patterns to find one's authentic self.
Michael A. Delitala begins with reflections on a strict upbringing, which limited his ability to express individuality. This foundation sets the stage for the romantic struggles that follow—where passion, insecurity, and emotional distance become familiar themes. The women in his life are presented as symbols of repeated patterns, not named as individuals, emphasizing the idea that we often fall into familiar cycles in love until we learn to change. By reflecting on these relationships, The Revisionist discovers how breaking these patterns leads to personal growth and deeper self-understanding.

Robert Barr was born in Glasgow, Scotland on the 16th September 1849. Five years later the family emigrated to a farm near Muirkirk in Upper Canada.
His early years were uneventful as the family settled into their new lives and Barr began his education.
A career path as a teacher opened up for him and, by 1874, he had been appointed as headmaster at the Central School at Windsor. Concurrently he also wrote travel and humourous articles for magazines. Within two years their success in the regional periodicals encouraged him to change careers to become a reporter and columnist.
In August 1876, at age 27, he married Eva Bennett and they began a family.
A half decade later he was the exchange editor of the ‘Free Press’ but decided to relocate to London to establish an English edition and to write fiction, which both met with much success.
Over the years he was a prolific writer and in 1892, along with Jerome K Jerome, he established ‘The Idler’ magazine and, just after the turn of the century, became its sole proprietor.
Although a number of his crime novels and short stories are parodies on Sherlock Holmes and other best-selling detectives of the time, he also wrote short stories across a whole range of subjects and genres usually with intriguing ideas and many laced with wit and humour.
Robert Barr died at his home in Woldingham, Surrey of heart disease on the 21st October 1912. He was 63.
