Sinopse

For sixty years, the armies of the tsar fought a multi-generational ethnic and religious war against the mountain peoples of the Caucasus, leaving a deep cultural impact on the participants and their descendants which resounds to this day. Translated into English for the first time, The Sixty-Year Caucasian War is the seminal account of this tumultuous contest. Through the clear and experienced eyes of the 19th century chronicler Rostislav Fadeev, who was himself a distinguished multi-decade veteran of the war, this work provides a comprehensive analysis of the key players, battles, and political dynamics that shaped this decisive period in Russian history.

Until the appointment of Prince Baryatinsky to commander-in-chief of the Russian forces in 1856, the brutal and complex conflict seemed locked in a stalemate after decades of heroic resistance by the Caucasian tribes. In just three years’ time, Baryatinsky was able to break the spine of Caucasian resistance, kill or capture its leadership, and subdue the entirety of the eastern Caucasus. This pivotal work bears witness to the courage and martial prowess of both the Caucasians and their Russian conquerors.

Antelope Hill Publishing is proud to present The Sixty-Year Caucasian War as a must-read for anyone interested in the intricacies of 19th century warfare, the nature of ethnic and religious struggle, and the enduring legacy of the Russian conquest of the Caucasus.

Perhaps now more than ever our lives are in need of beauty! Why do our hearts thrill over a sunset or cry over a song? The experience of beauty does something profound and powerful within the heart and soul of every human being. We were made by God but also for Him and His beauty. Pastor Steve DeWitt invites us to taste and see how God is the beauty behind all beauty.Enjoying God in Everything explores how we were created to wonder at the myriad ways God has designed for us to partake in His beauty: Monet’s waterlilies, baby ducklings, that perfect line in a book, the Swiss Alps, a Pacific wave, that three-year-old’s toothy grin, that elderly couple’s love.Beauty creates wonder in us. It sparks joy. It causes us to weep. And ultimately, it's meant to lead us back to the One who delights in sharing Himself—who delights in giving and creating all that takes our breath away. Wonder is what we feel when we glimpse a reflection of God’s beauty. DeWitt brings readers to the source of all beauty and opens our eyes to beauty’s appointed end: worship! Nothing is more desirable than the beautiful one who saves: Jesus Christ. When we begin to grasp the beauty of Christ’s restoring, sacrificial love, then we begin Enjoying God in Everything.

We spend time in the Low because we're human, not because we're broken.

In the Low is a collection of contemplative words and images for seasons of depression. It is a book designed to meet you where you are and sit with you there the way God does: intentionally and without judgment.

For many of us, the question isn't whether or not we will enter into depression but how to be there when we do. In those low places, we experience disconnection from others, from a meaningful life, and from God, and it can be difficult to know what to think or pray. This is where art and the honest prayers of others can help us name what we're experiencing so we know we're not alone.

In the Low is designed to meet you in the dark and linger there with you as you sit under the weight of depression or despair. Instead of shaming you for how you feel, minimizing your pain, or suggesting quick fixes, Justin McRoberts and Scott Erickson offer you prayers in language and imagery that can help you be honest and vulnerable with yourself and with God.

Featuring poetic prayers for deeper relationships, healing from trauma, a hopeful future, and more, In the Low meets you where you are in your journey and calls you deeper into the heart of God--who is not afraid of the dark.
