Sinopsis

Fourth of July, 1971. Five awkward, young men drive to New York City to attend the '71 comic convention in search of love, sex, art, comic books and a glimpse at the city's wicked underbelly. What they encounter changes their lives forever. Visit a pivotal time as comics change from a business to an art form. Meet Allan Caldwell, comic artist, blacklisted since the 1950s for his testimony to the U.S. Congressional Inquiry. Tour the greatest city in America during a period of social disintegration. THIS ISSUE: "Become A Pulp Writer of maybe a Vaudevillian". The word is out about Harold’s association with Caldwell. It is also plain that he is keeping company with the beautiful June. Harold has become a somebody but he knows that that too, is a chimera. Though enamoured, he comes to understand that June is overly controlled by her parents who don’t like him. Together, Harold and June leave the convention and tour Manhattan. Upon returning to the convention, they find that she has been reported a runaway. Her disappearance is blamed on Harold and he is warned to keep his distance. "It is a great read. Can't wait for the next." - Gabriel Morrissette, Co-creator of Northguard.

Vaccines have been used to safely introduce people's bodies to diseases for centuries, and they save millions of lives each year. By giving people a weakened or dead version of a disease, a vaccine allows the body to develop antibodies which recognize and fight the disease later on.

Early vaccinations used dry scabs from smallpox to promote smallpox immunity. Doctors and scientists across nations took and improved the method, developing vaccines for health crises from whooping cough to polio to COVID-19. This graphic history features famous cases and current challenges, including the time frame for creating a new vaccine.

“A vibrantly illustrated biography of Kahlo . . . [Hesse’s] drawings and graphics [flow] seamlessly with the narration.” —Houston Chronicle

One of the most important artists of the twentieth century and an icon of courageous womanhood, Frida Kahlo lives on in the public imagination, where her popularity shows no signs of waning. She is renowned for both her paintings and her personal story, which were equally filled with pain and anguish, celebration and life. Thousands of words, including her own, have been written about Kahlo, but only one previous biography has recorded her fascinating, difficult life. Frida Kahlo by María Hesse offers a highly unique way of getting to know the artist by presenting her life in graphic novel form, with striking illustrations that reimagine many of Kahlo’s famous paintings.

Originally published in Spanish in 2016, Frida Kahlo has already found an enthusiastic audience in the Spanish-speaking world, with some 20,000 copies sold in just a few months. This translation introduces English-language readers to Kahlo’s life, from her childhood and the traumatic accident that would change her life and her artwork, to her complicated love for Diego Rivera and the fierce determination that drove her to become a major artist in her own right. María Hesse tells the story in a first-person narrative, which captures both the depths of Frida’s suffering and her passion for art and life.

“Despite the often light mood of the artwork, the book never shies from weighty consideration of the physical pain and personal loss that gave way—in fleeting but significant moments—to Kahlo’s artistic triumph.” —Publishers Weekly
