Sinopse

Fourth of July, 1971. Five awkward, young men drive to New York City to attend the '71 comic convention in search of love, sex, art, comic books and a glimpse at the city's wicked underbelly. What they encounter changes their lives forever. Visit a pivotal time as comics change from a business to an art form. Meet Allan Caldwell, comic artist, blacklisted since the 1950s for his testimony to the U.S. Congressional Inquiry. Tour the greatest city in America during a period of social disintegration. THIS ISSUE: "If She Becomes Famous He'll Sell the Photos". Allan Caldwell has contracted with Wonder Comics to draw a comic book featuring the publisher’s daughter, June. Caldwell convinces the publisher that he needs to take near nude photos of her to draw realistically. She feels humiliated but acquiesces. Her parents want her to become a celebrity and they see the starting point as their comic company. Allan Caldwell recruits a reluctant Harold to ghost the comic. Allan Caldwell is certain that under his tutelage Harold can create a high quality product. Caldwell is supposed to judge the Wonder Comics art contest but assigns that task to Harold as well. "In one word...PHENOMENAL." - Stephen Lipson, historian, consultant to the Overstreet Price Guide.

“Usually, when you find physical evidence at a murder scene, it helps the investigation. It points the police in the direction of the suspects and most of the time helps them to solve and close the case. So, when a body turns up with its head smashed in, the first thing the detectives do is search for evidence. When a hammer covered in blood stained fingerprints is found, the case seems on its way to being solved, until it is revealed to whom those fingerprints belong. On paper, it should be easy. A hammer covered in prints, prints linked to someone in the system, someone who has a history of violence and has even been suspected of murder before. It should be easy, but it’s not, because as well as having a record, this same someone also happens to be dead. How can a dead man commit murder? How can he leave evidence at the scene and call the victim’s relatives after the fact? Are these murders related to the strange rituals and dabblings with the occult taken by a known criminal? The Damned Hands is a story of murder, haunting, and the occult, where following the evidence, leads to some very dark places indeed.

In the spring of 1846, a group of families left Illinois and began the long journey to California. To save time, they took an ill-advised shortcut—with disastrous consequences.

Bad weather, bad choices, and just plain bad luck forced the pioneers to spend a long, cold winter in the mountains, slowly starving. What they did to stay alive and the lengths that others went to in order to rescue them make this one of the most tragic and infamous stories of the American frontier.

Nathan Hale’s Hazardous Tales are graphic novels that tell the thrilling, shocking, gruesome, and TRUE stories of American history.

The influence of the comic book has never been greater, from movies to streaming and beyond, but the journey comics took from little-regarded kids' magazines to literary prize-winning books and global franchises turned on a highly unusual group of writers and artists. Few would have expected a small gathering of British comic book fans and creators in the early 'seventies to be a global cultural pivot-point, but this was the start of a disparate movement of punks, dropouts, and disaffected youths who reinvented a medium and became the imaginative heart of a global success story.Based on years of interviews with a generation of leading writers, artists, and editors, Karl Stock reveals the true story of the wild times, passion, and determination that helped, hindered, and saw the reinvention of comics.Stock brilliantly tells the story of the triumphs and disasters that rewrote the rulebook on what comics could be and who they should be for.
