Sinopsis

Fritze Lorenz is a blond, curly-haired potato farmer. He wears worn-out, squeaky rubber boots and blue overalls with a large, colorful knitted chest pocket. He is actually a very talented knitter and a clever, but also very grumpy fellow. On his old farm, you meet all sorts of animals, some he has found, some have run to him, and some have been given to him. He has provided most of these lovable creatures with colorful woolen garments. Hen Sonja, for example, wears a cozy yellow pullover dress because she simply can't grow any feathers. The actual boss of the farm, the one-eyed cat Pierre, has been knitted a fine pirate eyepatch. And then there's the grand dame named Schweinenase, who wears a petrol blue pullover. As a brave piglet, she escaped from a terrible pig farm and fled across wide fields and meadows to Fritze Lorenz. And there are many other personalities. Yes, Fritze Lorenz has a big family, and he is loved by everyone, and of course he loves all his friends too. But somehow he has lost all joy of life. Far too much crap happened around him, so that every day he trudges across his yard with a waving hand and a grumpy "Ach!" Until one day something almost impossible happens.

The History of England from Henry IV to Charles I, by a partial, prejudiced, and ignorant historian. N.B. There will be very few dates in this History! Jane Austen wrote The History of England in 1791, at the age of just 15, as a satirical parody of 18th-century historical textbooks. It pokes fun at the apparent impartiality of contemporary historians and contains more opinions about the monarchs' relative characters than any facts or dates. The History of England was not published until 1922, more than a century after Austen's death.

Ahhh, the modern workplace: a cauldron of stress and anxiety. From the moment we accept a new role, we’re thrown into a world of competing personalities, shifting protocols, and an endless stream of emails, Slack messages, and Zoom calls, all of which serve to distract us from the things we truly want to be doing, like eating Thai food and sleeping until noon.
I Hope This Email Finds You Never puts aside the motivational screeds, productivity hacks, and pop-science, and focuses instead on those things in the workplace that truly cause us grief—like a coworker eating an apple during a video call—in a lighthearted, entertaining, and (most importantly) cynical way.
Some things you’ll learn:How long you can get away with being “new” until you’re held accountableHow to make it look like you’re sorry without giving up any powerHow to find a workplace friend and make a workplace enemyCamera position: how to set up your laptop for maximum dominanceOrganizing your calendar while leaving time to cryThe rules of the kitchen (stealing someone’s yogurt is literally a crime)Writing a letter of resignation when you’ve already been resigned from day one

From Orientation (The Descent), Workplace Etiquette (No Eye Contact Before 11 AM), Working Remotely (Wink Wink), Coworkers (Getting Along with your fellow inmates), and everything in between, I Hope This Email Finds You Never is your must-have guide to surviving (thriving is not realistic) in the modern workplace.

AN NPR BOOK-OF-THE-DAY • A PUBLISHERS WEEKLY STAFF PICK • A NYLON MUST-READ • A FORTUNE NEW BOOK TO READ IN AUGUST
“And, at the center of it all, am I actually nice or am I just performing a role I think I’m expected to play?” Mia Mercado is a razor-sharp cultural critic and essayist known for her witty and hilarious dissections of the uncomfortable truths that rule our lives. In this thought-provoking collection of new essays, Mercado examines what it means to be “polite,” “agreeable,” and “nice.” She covers topics from the subtleties of the “Bad Bitch” and why women dominate the ASMR market, to what makes her dog an adorable little freak and how you know if you’re shy. This is a book about the unspoken trick mirror of our “good” intentions: the inherent performance of the social media apology, celebrating men when they do the bare minimum, and why we trust a Midwesterner to watch our stuff when we go pee.
Throughout, she ponders her identity as an Asian woman and asks what “nice” even means—and why anyone would want to be it. With writing that is as precise as it is profound, and cultural references that range from trash reality television to the New York Times Sunday-morning crossword puzzle, Mercado uncovers weird, long-overdue truths about our frailties and failings. In the end, she sees them not as a source of shame but as a cause for celebration. Filled with revelations that range from the silly to the serious,
She’s Nice Though offers a mind-bending glimpse into the illusions and delusions of contemporary life—and reveals who we *really* are when no one is watching.

    1961 Greenwich Village; a Fable
Gently comedic and poignant with a fanciful, mythical slant.

An uplifting tale from an inspirational era.

What if… a whimsical, droll Brit reflects on a magical, wondrous time in his life …?
What if… a mere sketch of their face could expose a person's true self, for better or for worse…?
What if… a mediocre artist was called out as a fraud, a folk singer's talent was enhanced and a woman couldn't offend, no matter what audacious things she said…?
What if… a couple in love, could transcend culture, race, and avarice…?

It happened in 1961 in Greenwich Village, NY. Or was it just a fable?

‘You're a stinkbug and they're worried if they come near you, your stench will get all over them and they won't be able to wash it off.'

When Edith and a select group of employees at Winked advertising agency are sent to Consequi, an elite three-day work retreat in the remote mountains, she sees an opportunity to impress her bosses and dodge an inevitable restructure.

But this is no ordinary corporate retreat. Trapped together in the revamped convent, the threat of mass redundancy looming over them, their phones confiscated and the team-building activities becoming increasingly extreme, the 'work family's' cracks begin to widen – and Edith has a secret that threatens to make her the office outcast: the stinkbug. When Edith realises there's something suspicious about Consequi, she's faced with a decision: conform and shut up, or accept stinkbug status and find out what's really going on.

In this wildly original and deeply unhinged story, Sinéad Stubbins turns her keen but empathetic eye on the lies we tell about ourselves in order to belong. Part anxious millennial fever dream, part searing workplace satire, this corporate gothic novel is perfect for fans of Yellowface, Nightbitch and Such a Fun Age.
