Summary

The present book contains five contributions relating to the introduction of Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs), i.e., the digital form of state-issued legal tender. It is the by-product of a Colloquium jointly hosted by the Collegium Helveticum (the joint Institute for Advanced Studies of ETH Zurich, the University of Zurich and the Zurich University of the Arts) and the University of Zurich’s Priority Research Program on Financial Market Regulation (URPP FinReg) on 9 May 2023.
The contributions to this book provide an in-depth analysis of the following aspects of CBDCs:
- Global Financial Architecture and Decentralized CBDC Regimes (by Rolf H. Weber),
- The Shift from Private Money into “Unlimited” CBDCs: An Unviable Development or a Chance for Reform and New Opportunities? (by Christian Hofmann),
- A Macroeconomic Perspective on retail CBDC and the Digital Euro (by Dirk Niepelt),
- Central Bank Digital Currencies: Central Bank Money reaches a new frontier (by Chiara Zilioli) and
- The Simple(r) Case for Wholesale Central Bank Digital Currency (by Thomas Moser).
The articles constitute an optimal blend between legal, institutional, and economic aspects on CBDCs by high-quality experts, combining the academic and the central bank perspectives.

    THE BEATLES
THE ULTIMATE TRIVIA AND CURIOUS FACTS COLLECTION

    CREATED BY TRIVIA HUB

The Beatles were a highly influential English rock band formed in Liverpool in 1960. The core lineup consisted of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. Their music, rooted in skiffle and 1950s rock 'n' roll, evolved to include elements of classical music, traditional pop, folk, Indian music, psychedelia, and hard rock. They revolutionized the music industry with their innovative recording, songwriting, and artistic presentation. "Beatlemania" marked the beginning of their massive popularity. The band's final studio album, Abbey Road, was released in 1969, with their last performance together in the studio in August of that year. Despite their break-up in 1970, the Beatles' music continues to have a significant impact.

    CURIOUS FACT SAMPLES:

The Beatles' original name was The Quarrymen, a reference to their school song. The group was formed by John Lennon in 1956 with friends from Quarry Bank High School.

George Harrison was initially considered too young to join The Quarrymen. However, after persistent requests and a performance of "Raunchy" on a bus, he was enlisted as the lead guitarist.

The Beatles were contracted for a 3 ½-month residency in Hamburg, Germany, where the red light district was in full swing. The band's historian Mark Lewisohn noted that the flashing neon lights and scantily clad women were prominent in the area where they played.

Brian Epstein, a local record store owner and music columnist, discovered the Beatles at the Cavern Club. He was immediately impressed by their fresh sound and "star quality".

Mass Killers - Inside the Minds...

Can you predict killing sprees? What do mass killers have in common? Why do so many of them write manifestos online and what do these tell us?

These are some of the questions David J. Krajicek seeks to answer in Mass Killings, on a topic that is becoming increasing urgent and desperate. In recent decades, mass shootings worldwide have increased in their savagery and frequency. Nearly all mass killers are male - and many of them are bound together by misogyny, misanthropy, and racism. They do not just "snap." They plan their assaults for months or years, drawing up detailed battle plans, and accumulating weaponry. They document the process in journals or videos online, understanding that they are leaving evidence which will help the marquee lights of their futile crimes burn brighter and longer.

Krajicek shows the commonalities between mass shooters, and describes the psychopathic process that leads these troubled men to commit atrocities. Mass killers feed off each other's words and deeds, and it's crucial to be able to read the signals they give out to prevent future tragedies.
