Sinopsis

"Leadership Communication Essentials" explores the crucial role of business communicators in shaping relationships between businesses and stakeholders. We delve into the strategies employed by the Arthur W. Page Society, an organization responsible for corporate communications and composed of senior executives known as chief communications officers (CCOs), to advance corporate communications and align them with transformative business realities.
Over the past few years, we have documented driving trends and proposed approaches to executive strategy and execution that ensure effective links between people and forces within and outside the organization. As detailed in the Page Society report, "Building Belief" (2012), new corporate communications models enable leading CCOs to build and protect their corporate brand and reputation in an era of transformation and transparency.
Launched in April 2012, this new model laid the groundwork for business communications leaders to help their organizations thrive in the radically changed 21st-century environment. This model was introduced in the master's program at Georgetown University and supported by CCO guest lecturers in the Leadership Communication course.
We thank our corporate communications leaders for their support, information, and guidance. We explore how people communicate with each other and organizations, how technology creates multiple channels in the flow of information, and how data mining and analytics are now integral to enterprise communications. Organizations analyze stakeholder opinions, experiences, and decisions for insights that can impact future value.

A simple, human solution for loneliness and depressionWhen Dr. Dixon Chibanda lost a patient to suicide, he began a soul-searching journey that eventually led to a mental healthcare revolution. As one of only six psychiatrists in all of Zimbabwe, a country traumatized by decades of conflict, Chibanda quickly realized that millions there were suffering from mental illness with no hope of receiving care. He saw that the only way to narrow this care gap was to leverage existing resources in the community, and one such resource was the compassion and understanding of grandmothers. With fourteen of these wise elders as partners, Chibanda pioneered the Friendship Bench program, a community-driven initiative addressing loneliness, depression, substance abuse, and suicide by fostering intergenerational connectedness. Since then, more than 500,000 people worldwide have sat on a park bench to share their personal stories with an empathetic grandmother.

A primer on how human connection forms the bedrock of our resilience, The Friendship Bench gives readers the tools to facilitate transformative healing by reaching out to those who are struggling and isolated from the world around them. It’s a case study of how interventions supported by robust scientific evidence can be made accessible for all. Ultimately, it’s a celebration of the collective wisdom and knowledge of those rooted in their communities and their profound ability to foster belonging, purpose, and healing.

Educational research has long documented the politics of punishment for boys and young men of color in schools—but what about the politics of empowerment and inclusion? In Good Boys, Bad Hombres, Michael V. Singh focuses on this aspect of youth control in schools, asking on whose terms a positive Latino manhood gets to be envisioned.

Based on two years of ethnographic research in an urban school district in California, Good Boys, Bad Hombres examines Latino Male Success, a school-based mentorship program for Latino boys. Instead of attempting to shape these boys' lives through the threat of punishment, the program aims to provide an "invitation to a respectable and productive masculinity" framed as being rooted in traditional Latinx signifiers of manhood. Singh argues, however, that the promotion of this aspirational form of Latino masculinity is rooted in neoliberal multiculturalism, heteropatriarchy, and anti-Blackness.

Documenting the ways Latino men and boys resist the politics of neoliberal empowerment for new visions of justice, Singh works to deconstruct male empowerment, arguing that new narratives and practices—beyond patriarchal redemption—are necessary for a reimagining of Latino manhood in schools and beyond.

A new progressive generation is on the rise in the United States, reflected in the mushrooming rolls of the Democratic Socialists of America (90,000 mostly twentysomething members), Marxist explainers in Teen Vogue, and perhaps most famously of all, the youngest woman ever elected to Congress, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

The Rise of a New American Left is the first book to look closely at this new politics. Propelled by interviews with AOC and the other key figures and organizations that have shaken up American politics, the book includes portraits of groups like Democratic Socialists of America, the Sunrise Movement, and Justice Democrats, explaining who they are, where they come from, and what they want. Investigating the panoply of strategies employed by the new movements and their relationships to politicians from Bernie Sanders to Nancy Pelosi, the book describes how the generational focus on insurgent electoral campaigns both aims to transform the Democratic Party and threatens to be captured by it.

Written with panache by a member of this rising generation, this book immerses the listener in a youth culture the likes of which hasn't been seen since the Sixties.

There have been countless books, articles, and televised reports in recent years about the almost mythic "white working class," a tide of commentary that has obscured the labor, and even the very existence, of entire groups of working people, including everyday Black workers. In this brilliant corrective, Black Folk, acclaimed historian Blair LM Kelley restores the Black working class to the center of the American story.

Spanning two hundred years—from one of Kelley's earliest known ancestors, an enslaved blacksmith, to the essential workers of the Covid-19 pandemic—Black Folk highlights the lives of the laundresses, Pullman porters, domestic maids, and postal workers who established the Black working class as a force in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Taking jobs white people didn't want and confined to segregated neighborhoods, Black workers found community in intimate spaces, from stoops on city streets to the backyards of washerwomen, where multiple generations labored from dawn to dusk, talking and laughing in a space free of white supervision. As millions of Black people left the violence of the American South for the promise of a better life in the North and West, these networks of resistance and joy sustained early arrivals and newcomers alike and laid the groundwork for organizing for better jobs, better pay, and equal rights.

"Dream Psychology" is a seminal work by Sigmund Freud, published in 1899 as "Die Traumdeutung" in German and later translated into English. In this book, Freud explores the significance of dreams and their interpretation in the context of psychoanalysis. He posits that dreams are manifestations of unconscious desires, fears, and conflicts, and by analyzing them, individuals can gain insight into their innermost thoughts and motivations. Freud introduces concepts such as dream symbolism, the latent and manifest content of dreams, and the role of the unconscious mind in shaping dreams.
