Sinopse

Angular is an open-source, front-end framework used to build web applications using TypeScript. Angular is a component-based framework, which means you build apps by developing and composing reusable components. This framework has all the built-in features needed to develop complex, feature-rich web apps. Written by an Angular specialist working with some of the top companies in the Netherlands, this book teaches you how to harness the full potential of the Angular framework. You’ll explore different front-end architecture designs and set up a scalable environment for Angular applications and libraries using Nx, before taking a deep dive into the framework's newest and most powerful features. Next, you’ll learn to manipulate the Document Object Model (DOM) with Angular directives, pipes, and animations, and build reusable components like a pro. The book spotlights best practices and flags potential pitfalls at every step of the way. You’ll also learn design patterns that fit well when using the Angular framework, reactive programming with RxJS and Angular signals, and how to manage application states effectively. The book teaches you about accessibility, testing, and optimizing your app for deployment.By the end of this book, you’ll be able to use Angular effectively to build enterprise-ready, scalable front-end applications.

Galaxies are dynamic entities, constantly evolving through processes like mergers, collisions, and interactions with neighboring galaxies. When galaxies merge, their stars, gas, and dust can undergo dramatic transformations, leading to the formation of new stars and restructuring of the galaxy's shape. These interactions can trigger intense bursts of star formation and feed supermassive black holes at the galaxies' centers, leading to the emission of powerful jets of radiation.

Furthermore, galaxies are not isolated entities but are interconnected within the vast cosmic web of the universe. They cluster together in groups and clusters, bound by their mutual gravitational attraction. These clusters can contain hundreds or even thousands of galaxies, each influencing the others' evolution through gravitational interactions and tidal forces.

The study of galaxies encompasses various fields of astrophysics, including observational astronomy, theoretical modeling, and simulations. Observational techniques, such as telescopes operating across different wavelengths of light and gravitational wave detectors, allow astronomers to peer into the depths of galaxies across cosmic time.

The promise of artificial intelligence is automated decision-making at scale, but that means AI also automates risk at scale. Are you prepared for that risk?

Already, many companies have suffered real damage when their algorithms led to discriminatory, privacy-invading, and even deadly outcomes. Self-driving cars have hit pedestrians; HR algorithms have precluded women from job searches; mortgage systems have denied loans to qualified minorities. And often the companies who deployed the AI couldn't explain why the black box made the decision it did.

In Ethical Machines, Reid Blackman gives you all you need to understand AI ethics as a risk management challenge. He'll help you build, procure, and deploy AI in a way that's not only ethical but also safe in terms of your organization's reputation, regulatory compliance, and legal standing—and do it at scale. And don't worry—the book's purpose is to get work done, not to ponder deep and existential questions about ethics and technology. Blackman's clear and accessible writing helps make a complex and often misunderstood concept like ethics easy to grasp. Most importantly, Blackman makes ethics actionable by tackling the big three ethical risks with AI—bias, explainability, and privacy—and tells you what to do (and what not to do) to mitigate them.

Each of us is a conscious individual living in the world. Very occasionally we have experiences so bizarre we have difficulty understanding what occurred. The Lantern in the Skull explores a selection of these unsettling yet intriguing experiences.
A camera previously in perfect working order which inexplicably won’t photograph fetishes in an African village chief’s basement provides the first step on Hugh Major’s engaging survey. Using his own experiences as a springboard, he considers telepathy, psychic perceptions, psychedelic insights, artistic transports, near death experiences and much else.
The nature of consciousness itself is a conundrum, and the evidence for marginal experiences remains contentious. Hugh Major provides  timely snapshot of current research into ‘marginal zones of the extraordinary.’ In precise, jargon-free language, he indicates the territory being explored and outlines major directions researchers are travelling. There are many captivating and surprising discoveries along the way.
Dean Radin PhD, chief scientist at the Institute of Noetic Sciences in the US, says:
“The Lantern in the Skull offers an engaging meditation on consciousness, that clear light that seemingly lives inside your head, stubbornly resisting materialistic explanations. Author Hugh Major provides a clearly written and well-informed study of the increasingly critical need to see beyond a simple clockwork model of reality.”

    Emergency Medicine - A Quick...

In emergency medicine, the first moments of patient care are crucial. A structured approach to initial assessment and triage ensures that life-threatening conditions are identified and managed promptly. The goal is to stabilize the patient while prioritizing those who need immediate intervention.
The Primary Survey follows the ABCDE approach—Airway, Breathing, Circulation, Disability, and Exposure. This systematic evaluation helps in quickly identifying life-threatening issues. Airway assessment focuses on patency, identifying obstructions, and securing the airway if necessary. Breathing evaluation includes checking for respiratory distress, auscultating lung sounds, and providing oxygen or ventilation support. Circulation assessment involves monitoring pulse, blood pressure, and perfusion, with immediate fluid resuscitation or hemorrhage control as needed. Disability evaluation considers neurological status, including Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) scoring. Exposure involves a full-body examination to detect hidden injuries while maintaining temperature regulation.
Once the primary survey stabilizes immediate threats, the Secondary Survey provides a more comprehensive assessment. This includes a detailed history using the AMPLE mnemonic—Allergies, Medications, Past medical history, Last meal, and Events leading to the illness or injury. A thorough head-to-toe physical examination follows, including imaging and laboratory investigations if needed. The secondary survey ensures that less obvious but critical injuries or illnesses are not overlooked.
