  Based on true events, England's Martyr is the opening book in a trilogy depicting the rise of the historically existing English hero, Edmund Ironside. 
  1010 AD: After years of inept rule and incessant invasion, England is on the brink of ruin, its people brutalised and its lands ravaged from wave after wave of Norse marauders. 
  As the country cracks under yet another assault – this time from the fearsome hordes of the cruel heathen warlord, Thorkell the Tall – a single nobleman, Ulfcytel, has set himself to raising an army, thinking it better to fight and perhaps prevail rather than wait for his ill-advised king, Ethelred, to make himself useful. 
  Whilst Ulfcytel rallies his forces, he is surprised to find reinforcements arriving from elsewhere, some of them led by Alaric – a heroic and Godly man from the lands of Wessex. Inspired by Alaric’s fortitude, Ulfcytel agrees on a daring plan, thinking he has a chance to eliminate Thorkell and thus cut the head from the heathen horde before battle is joined. 
  Unbeknownst to either Ulfcytel or Alaric, their absent King Ethelred has plans of his own, plans that will leave them at risk of not only their foreign enemies but the blades of traitors from within their own ranks. 
  Before all is lost, the two heroes realise they must confront the corruption beating at the heart of England, and in doing so set the stage for the emergence of a new contender for the throne. A man known to history as Edmund. Edmund Ironside. 
  Caution: This book is set during a particularly traumatic episode in English history that involved extreme military and societal upheaval. The story thus depicts repeated instances of physical conflict/violence, including some which are of a sexual nature. Reader discretion is advised.

  The Ballad of a Nun - A decadent...

  John Davidson was born at Barrhead, East Renfrewshire on 11th April 1857.  
  In 1862 his family moved to Greenock and there he began his education at Highlanders' Academy.  Davidson would now spend many years at school and the beginnings of a career in various industries before gaining employment in various schools. 
  By now literature was a large part of his activities and his first published work was ‘Bruce, A Chronicle Play’ in 1886. Four other plays quickly followed including the somewhat brilliant pantomimic ‘Scaramouch in Naxos’ (1889). 
  With his reputation gradually providing an income he was also able to explore his true medium; Verse.  ‘In a Music Hall and Other Poems’ (1891) together with ‘Fleet Street Eclogues’ (1893) were ample proof that he possessed a quite rare, genuine and distinctive poetic gift.   
  Davidson now turned further and further towards verse. In 1894 he published his most popular volume, ‘Ballads and Songs’ (1894), and this was followed by a further ‘Fleet Street Eclogues’ (Second Series) (1896) and by ‘New Ballads’ (1897) and ‘The Last Ballad’ (1899). 
  As the new century dawned Davidson was hard at work on a series of ‘Testaments’, in which he gave definite expression to his philosophy and were published over a seven year period; ‘The Testament of a Vivisector’ (1901), ‘The Testament of a Man Forbid’ (1901), ‘The Testament of an Empire Builder’ (1902), and ‘The Testament of John Davidson’ (1908).  
  However, on 23rd March 1909, with his finances in ruins, the onset of cancer and profound hopelessness and clinical depression he left his house for the last time.  His body was only found on September 18th by some local fishermen.

  A group of friends decamps from 1920’s Paris for the Festival of San Fermin in Pamplona, Spain. Jake is in love with the aristocratic Bret Ashley, but Bret’s wandering eye lands on a young matador. In the week of drinking, bullfighting, and jealousy that follows, friendships will be upended and hopes for love dashed.
