Summary

When old drunken sailor Billy Bones dies at the Admiral Benbow Inn, the innkeeper's son Jim Hawkins finds a map amongst his possessions. The local physician, Doctor Livesey, and the squire, Trelawney, believe the map is of an island where the infamous pirate Captain Flint buried his treasure. They decide to buy a ship to go and find it, and Jim decides to join the crew as cabin boy.

But also joining Captain Smollett's crew is a one-legged cook with a parrot named Long John Silver. As Jim discovers, Silver is just one of the crew who was also part of Captain Flint's crew, and they're planning a mutiny. After they reach the island and the pirates rise up, Jim is separated from the others loyal to Captain Smollett. He soon learns that they are not alone on the island after all, and that perhaps the treasure has already been found.

Treasure Island has been entertaining readers of all ages for 130 years and it is just as witty and as thrilling today as it was when first published. This special edition includes the much-loved original text, along with new maps and an exclusive Foreword by Mackenzie Crook, star of Pirates of the Caribbean, children's author and scriptwriter.

William Fryer Harvey (1885-1937) was an English writer of short stories, most notably in the mystery and horror genres.Born into a wealthy Quaker family in Yorkshire, he went to Balliol College, Oxford, and took a degree in medicine at Leeds. Ill health dogged him, however, and he devoted much of his recuperation to writing short stories. "Unwinding" is a strange story based around a simple parlour game. The guests take it in turn to say what the thing mentioned by the previous player reminds them of. But when the vicar says that first class railway compartments remind him of murder, everyone is puzzled. Over supper the vicar tells a very peculiar story. But it is the behaviour of the newcomer, the mysterious Mr. Cholmondery, which is most peculiar...

The idea of this book struck me as I was reading the daily newspapers. I found a column in which amazing real life incidents were stated - such as a man living in an unusual place, jewelry mysteriously disappearing, miracles taking place and many other strange yet interesting things. I liked these incidents so much that I couldn’t stop thinking about the various possibilities in which they would lead to and so I started to jolt them into words. I was surprised as I completed my first story within an hour, though fast it was only a couple of hundred words and so I challenged myself to write 15 such very short stories. These very short stories are filled with adventure, action, irony, tragedy and humor. Each story has its own world, language and shows the readers that this is the way of life and how it should be cherished. Toughest part was to give a name to this collection of very short stories, since they are so varied and could not be clubbed or categorized, frankly speaking I am not sure even now. The longest one among the collection stood out so I suggested calling the book by its name “An Evening with Lady Luck” I would like to thank my parents and my mentor Mr. Curtis Peter Van Gorder for making this audio book materialize in your hands; I hope this audio book helps you as it has helped me.----- Shreyans Ranjalkar

The Chymical Wedding of Christian Rosenkreutz was edited in 1616 in Strasbourg (annexed by France in 1681). It is the third of the original manifestos of the mysterious "Fraternity of the Rose Cross" (Rosicrucians).
NOTE: It was translated into English for the first time in 1690 by E. Foxcroft. This translation became the source for many of the modern attempts to improve the original. The translation presented here is that of E. Foxcroft.
Although the book first appeared in 1616, the story takes place over 150 years earlier. It is an allegoric romance (story) divided into Seven Days, or Seven Journeys, like Genesis, and tells us about the way Christian Rosenkreuz was invited to go to a wonderful castle full of miracles, in order to assist the Chymical Wedding of the king and the queen, that is, the husband and the bride. The story begins on an evening near Easter. In the final chapter-the seventh day-CRC is knighted; the year is 1459. It was on Easter-day 1459 that the Constitutions of the Freemasons of Strasburg was first signed in Regensburg, with a second signed shortly afterwards in Strasburg. The Gutenberg Bible began printing in Mainz, Germany in 1455, and the first Bible in German, the Mentel Bible, was printed in Strasburg in 1466. The invitation to the royal wedding includes the Monas Hieroglyphica associated with John Dee. (Summary by Wikipedia.org)
