Sinopsis

Robert Holman's Jonah and Otto is a humane, funny and ultimately haunting play that explores masculinity, identity and what it means to be English.
Over the course of a single day, two men share their solitude and unfold their secrets. They disagree with each other about women, about lust and about guilt. They question the power of magic, of redemption and the price of freedom, each seeing himself more clearly through the eyes of the other.
Jonah and Otto premiered in 2008 at the Royal Exchange, Manchester. This edition was published alongside its London premiere at the Park Theatre in 2014.
'extraordinary... Robert Holman's achingly beautiful new play takes you into other worlds, but it is rooted firmly in this one... a recklessly courageous play about two men struggling to find the courage to live, love and to be the best possible version of themselves' - Guardian
'a quiet power... Robert Holman's plays rumble and reverberate in the mind long afterwards' - The Times
'astonishing... Brimming with emotional wonder, Jonah and Otto is an intricately layered creation that hums hypnotically' - Independent

Sometimes we just want the best. But that involves choices, judgements, decisions. And that all depends on our feelings, our mood at the time.
Even more so with Poetry. Would we like a little more pathos, or love, or humour with that? Can we only choose one Keats? And ’If’? Surely Kipling wrote something else?
So difficult to decide. This one or that? Is it easier to choose your fifty favourite poets or your fifty favourite poems?
The argument can go on forever, certainly a few days. However what we can all agree on is that poets have a way with words that almost all of us respect and admire and can’t compete with. Who hasn’t wanted to quote some favourite lines to make a better point?
In this volume we made those choices, judgements and decisions for you.
Some you will love. Maybe not today but tomorrow. Others may not initially be your cup of tea. But they will all make you think and bring you closer to something..…or someone.
This volume comes to you from Portable Poetry, a specialized imprint from Deadtree Publishing. Our range is large and growing and covers single poets, themes, and many compilations.

William Shakespeare, long hailed as history's greatest dramatic writer, has been lauded for his mastery of poetic expression, his insight into the human condition and his deep exploration into the psyche and motivations of his characters. These skills are perhaps best encapsulated in the monologues he gives his various protagonists, villains and bit players. From the ambitious Scottish general Macbeth contemplating the assassination of his sovereign king to the saintly Joan of Arc from "Henry VI" inspiring soldiers to follow her into battle, to Richard III's evil and traitorous plotting, to the mischievous sprite Puck from "A Midsummer Night's Dream" celebrating his bewitching of the Fairy Queen, Shakespeare's monologues are short distillations of his larger themes - love and loss, fairness and inequity, power and envy, lust and purity. Fort Raphael Publishing is proud to present, in this first volume, some of Shakespeare's greatest monologues, each of which captures a shining, brilliant moment from his plays that gives us a deeper understanding of each character, whether flattering, damning or inspiring.Enjoy this collection of monologues from the greatest theatrical writer in the English language - William Shakespeare.

A cruel conqueror has captured the Spanish city of Fuente Ovejuna. As his reign of terror builds, the townspeople look within themselves to find the courage to overthrow him. The eminent Spanish playwright Lope de Vega based his best-known play on a historical incident that took place in 1476. Written in the early 17th century, the play remains a timely meditation on honor and selflessness in the face of oppression.
