Before he was a policeman, DI Declan Walsh was a Corporal in the Special Investigation Branch of the Royal Military Police, resigning after a case went terribly wrong, ending with Declan and his SIB partner, Lance-Corporal Moses killing the main suspect of a case in self-defence.

Now, over ten years later and after the shocking events at the end of A DINNER TO DIE FOR, Declan is approached by his old mentor, Colonel Yates to return to the SIB as a consultant, as the body of Moses has been found on a research base in the Peak District, hidden for a year, and a piece of paper with Declan's name on it, discovered in his wallet, is their only clue as to who did it - or how.

With DCI Monroe alongside him, Declan finds himself returning to a life he thought long gone, in the process not only investigating the events that led to Moses' death, but also learning of an underground fight club between regiments with fatal results, finding himself confronted by old enemies with scores to settle, and working with a Ministry of Defence Police detective with a chilling connection to Declan's past.

And when the other members of the Last Chance Saloon arrive, tasked by the new Prime Minister to investigate a stolen weapon from the same base, Declan realises that not only are these two crimes connected, but both Declan, and those he cares for, are in the firing line...

I'm Nina Statleon, a vampire (with a little bit of witch thrown in for good measure—a sucky, magic-less one). My best friends, Marty, a werewolf, and and Wanda, a halfsie, have talked me into opening a detective agency for paranormals.

That said, my partners in this new adventure don't care about all my protests. That's how we end up with our first client, Brenda Bronkowski, an older vampire the human police are hunting down for murder . . .

Brenda fell for one of the oldest tricks in this new age of technology's book—a romance scam. You guessed it, Brenda was catfished. Brenda swears she's never even met him, let alone murdered him, and she's come to us for help finding the person responsible for his murder.

Not only is the suspect list low, there's a glitch, and it's a big one.

    The clan.

It's bad enough the human police like her for Owen's murder, but if the clan finds out we've got her holed up in the murder basement, it won't only be curtains for Brenda, our little private investigating gig could be over before it's really begun.

That means we need to solve this pronto, so we can get the clan off our backs, but more importantly, so Brenda doesn't end up expunged . . .

He became attracted to Miss Dunbar; since he could not marry her, he had attempted to please her in other ways, such as trying to help people less fortunate than himself.Maria Gibson was found lying in a pool of blood on Thor Bridge with a bullet through the head and note from the governess, agreeing to a meeting at that location, in her hand. A recently discharged revolver with one shot fired is found in Miss Dunbar's wardrobe. Holmes agrees to look at the situation in spite of the damning evidence...
