Xuanzang and his disciples were alerted by a red cloud shooting up to the sky from a hollow while they were passing a tall mountain. When the red cloud cleared, a demon, Red Boy, disguised himself as a seven-year-old child tied to a tree. Xuanzang compassionately untied the child and got kidnapped by a sudden gust of wind.
