Sinopsis

GUN CONTROL: INTERNATIONAL VIEWS, PERSPECTIVES AND COMPARISONS extensively explores gun control policies, firearm ownership landscapes, and associated issues across various countries. It begins with an introductory chapter outlining its scope and purpose. Subsequent chapters delve into topics such as gun control policies encompassing crime prevention, public safety, mass shooting reduction, mental health considerations, domestic violence prevention, accidental shooting prevention, national security, illegal firearm trafficking, and maintenance of public order. The book also addresses the definition of guns, civilian firearm use, responsible gun ownership, and the United States' intricate gun ownership landscape, covering laws, regulations, statistics, and the impact of policies on violent crime and mass shootings. Further chapters extend this analysis to other nations, exploring gun control scenarios in Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, Switzerland, Japan, Brazil, South Africa, and Russia. Additionally, the book discusses global perspectives on gun ownership variations, the purchase process, and introduces a rating system for effective gun control policies. The final chapter explores the sociological aspects of sports shooting, covering historical development, cultural influences, community dynamics, inclusivity, economic factors, political aspects, controversies, and the intersection of health and well-being. The inclusion of an index and reference section enhances the book's accessibility and credibility, ultimately presenting a comprehensive examination of diverse aspects within the realm of gun-related subjects.

A false dilemma, also known as a false dichotomy, is a logical fallacy that occurs when only two options are presented as the only possible choices, despite the existence of other viable alternatives. This simplification of choices creates an illusion of a limited range of possibilities, forcing individuals to pick between two extremes. The false dilemma is often used to manipulate thinking, steer conversations, and influence decisions in various contexts, from political discourse to everyday life.
The core issue with a false dilemma is that it restricts the scope of consideration, compelling individuals to overlook other potential options. By framing a situation as a binary choice, it reduces the complexity of real-world problems, often misrepresenting the nuances that exist. This limited perspective can distort rational decision-making, as it pressures individuals to choose between what may appear to be the “lesser of two evils” or the most acceptable option, without considering all alternatives.
This logical fallacy thrives in situations where the options presented are extreme, and the middle ground is ignored or dismissed. The intention behind such a presentation is often to push people toward a specific outcome by making the alternative seem unthinkable, undesirable, or unattainable. Whether in political campaigns, corporate advertising, or social debates, false dilemmas are a tool of persuasion, designed to simplify complex matters and direct attention to particular choices while disregarding others.

Ronald Reagan hosted the General Electric Theater TV series which ran from 1953 to 1962. During this time Reagan visited GE’s 135 plants across the country and spoke to audiences of GE’s 250,000 employees. Reagan’s speech focused on the growing power of federal, state, and local governments and the dangers this posed to free market competition and to American liberty. Over the years Reagan continually refined and improved what came to be known as “The Speech”.
Reagan was asked to record a version of his speech to be used to support the presidential campaign of Barry Goldwater during the 1964 presidential campaign. The speech, entitled “A Time for Choosing”, was presented to a national television audience on October 27, 1964, as part of a program titled Rendezvous with Destiny.
David Broder of the Washington Post said the speech was "the most successful national political debut since William Jennings Bryan electrified the 1896 Democratic Convention with his 'Cross of Gold' speech." Following the speech, Reagan was elected Governor of California in 1966. This speech launched Reagan’s career on the national stage and contributed to his reputation as “the Great Communicator”.

Blame Changer by psychologist Carmel O'Brien, former head of Clinical Services at Victoria's Doncare, provides straight forward answers to common questions and aims to debunk pervasive myths around what Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull last year called "one of Australia's greatest shames" domestic violence. But Blame Changer is much more than the definitive rebuttal of some of society's most damaging, ill-informed and pervasive attitudes about domestic violence. It sounds a clarion call for a change in the way we talk - at the dinner table, on social media and in national conversation at the highest levels - about women and the violence they experience. What's more, it's also a practical guide that will help victims of abuse: Blame Changer also shows friends and family how to help a victim of abuse and challenges how the Family Court system responds to allegations of abuse. This is the definitive guide to domestic violence in Australia, by a woman who has worked with countless victims over many years.

    A Stalker's Brain - The...

Obsession is often mistaken for love. The idea of someone being unable to stop thinking about you, watching your every move, and doing whatever it takes to be close may sound romantic in books and movies, but in reality, it is anything but. Stalking is not about love—it is about control, possession, and a dangerous detachment from reality. This book delves deep into the psychology of obsession, the minds of stalkers, and the devastating impact they have on their victims.

Stalking is not a new phenomenon, nor is it limited to any specific demographic. From rejected lovers to strangers who become fixated on a public figure, stalking takes many forms. Some stalkers believe they are destined to be with their victims, while others seek revenge or dominance. Many operate under elaborate delusions, convinced that their actions are justified. Understanding these obsessive minds requires an exploration of psychology, trauma, and the social factors that contribute to such behavior.

With the rise of technology, stalking has evolved. The internet has made it easier than ever for stalkers to track, harass, and manipulate their victims from a distance. Social media provides a constant stream of personal information, and modern surveillance tools have turned everyday life into an open book for those determined enough to pry. What once required physical proximity can now be achieved with just a few clicks. Digital stalking is no less terrifying than its physical counterpart—it is often the gateway to something even more dangerous.
