Sinopsis

UFO, the legendary band which have been gracing the world’s stages for the last 50 years, have given us more than their fair share of superb quality hard rock songs including ‘Doctor, Doctor’, ‘Rock Bottom’, ‘Shoot Shoot’, ‘Too Hot To Handle’, and ‘Only You Can Rock Me’. And that was just during the Seventies!Albums such as Force It, Obsession, The Wild, The Willing, And The Innocent, Walk On Water and You Are Here are acknowledged as classics of the melodic hard rock genre, and their live masterpiece Strangers In The Night regularly features at or near the top of rock music polls. UFO’s history can be delineated by the guitarists who have passed through their ranks. Phases in the band’s career include: the early ‘Space Rock’ stumblings; their astonishing development with the brilliant, mercurial Michael Schenker; the consolidation and first downfall during Paul Chapman’s tenure; subsequent re-launches and crash-landings; a troubled reformation of the Schenker line-up and the final, mostly settled, version with Vinnie Moore. This book explores each of the band’s 23 studio albums, and, of course, Strangers. Every song is analysed in detail and opinions are numerous in this passionate critique of one of Britain’s best loved and most influential rock institutions.

Richard immersed himself in music as soon as he got his first real six string at the age of 10. Previously chained to a desk for a living, he broke free, armed with a music degree from the Open University and a Licentiate Diploma in Classical Guitar from the Royal School of Music, and proceeded to roam the East Midlands as a freelance guitarist and music teacher. He lives with his wife in Leicestershire, UK, and when not involved with music he enjoys foreign travel and playing chess badly.

The star of the cult classic Withnail and I offers “a refreshing combination of comedy, confession, and coruscation” in this memoir of the movie business (Kirkus Reviews).   Richard E. Grant’s acting career has included memorable roles in some of Hollywood’s most critically acclaimed films, including Robert Altman’s Gosford Park and Francis Ford Coppola’s Dracula. But he attributes his success to his first film role, starring as a flamboyantly pathetic Shakespearean in the underground hit Withnail and I. As Grant explains, “I had no notion that, almost without exception, every film offered since would be the result of playing an alcoholic out-of-work actor.”   In With Nails, Grant shares his long, maddening, and immensely rewarding journey through the world of film. From the hell of making Hudson Hawk to befriending Steve Martin on the set of L.A. Story; and from eating spaghetti with the Coppolas, to window-shopping with Sharon Stone, and working with and learning from the best actors and directors in the business, Grant’s unvarnished memoir “is a biting and wonderfully funny look at the movie business by an actor who is as clear-eyed and observant about himself as he is about the craziness surrounding him” (Publishers Weekly, starred review).

    ABOUT THE FILM
Blade Runner is a 1982 science fiction film directed by Ridley Scott, set in a dystopian future Los Angeles. It follows Rick Deckard, a former police officer tasked with hunting down and "retiring" rogue replicants—biologically engineered humans. The replicants, led by Roy Batty, have escaped to Earth seeking longer lifespans. As Deckard pursues them, he grapples with questions about humanity, identity, and morality. The film blends neo-noir, cyberpunk, and philosophical themes, exploring artificial intelligence, empathy, and the boundaries between human and machine. With its atmospheric visuals and haunting score by Vangelis, Blade Runner became a cult classic.

    TRIVIA SAMPLES:

"Director Ridley Scott and director of photography Jordan Cronenweth achieved the famous 'shining eyes' effect by using a technique invented by Fritz Lang known as the 'Schüfftan Process.' Light is bounced into the actors' eyes off of a piece of half-mirrored glass mounted at a 45-degree angle to the camera."

"Sir Ridley Scott regards this movie as probably his most personal and complete work."

"According to Rutger Hauer's biography, the final confrontation between Rick Deckard and Roy Batty was initially planned to be a fight in an old gym using martial arts, like kung-fu. Hauer disliked the idea, saying it was 'too Bruce Lee', and proposed Batty chasing Deckard instead."

The apex of critical praise and commercial success is a metric achieved by a select few. In 2020, Cardi B became synonymous with “record breaking” as her debut album Invasion of Privacy went five times platinum and became the longest charting record by a female rapper in history. From streaming and charting to views, likes, retweets, and shares, Cardi dominates. Cardi B’s ascension to stardom is pure 21st century: from welfare kid to unapologetic stripper; reality TV persona, to social media maven, to a household name delivering one of the consummately executed albums in rap history, it’s easy to imagine future critics noting popular music as before and after the rise of Cardi B.This in-depth look at Invasion of Privacy explores the sexual politics of hip hop through a track-by-track breakdown of the album. It addresses questions like: How does the wage gap impact pop music? Has Cardi destigmatized sex work for artists? What would hip hop look like as a matriarchy? Each chapter explores the musicality and social constructs that shape the album and a new movement in femme rap.
