Sinopse

Richard Francis Burton's "1001 Nights" is a captivating translation and retelling of the famed Middle Eastern collection of folk tales, also known as the "Arabian Nights." Burton'Äôs rendition breathes new life into the ancient narratives with his signature style, which marries scholarly rigor with a poetic sensibility. His work not only captures the enchanting essence of the stories but also situates them within the broader literary context of Victorian England, illuminating the West's fascination with Eastern culture and the era'Äôs complex colonial dynamics. Burton's evocative language and vibrant characterizations invite readers into a world of magic, intrigue, and profound moral dilemmas. A polymath and adventurer, Burton was deeply enthralled by languages, cultures, and the mysteries of the East. His extensive travels across the Middle East, India, and Africa, coupled with his unique anthropological perspectives, informed his approach to this literary masterpiece. In undertaking the translation of "1001 Nights," Burton aimed to challenge Western stereotypes and present a more nuanced understanding of Eastern societies, reflecting his ambition to bridge cultures through literature. Burton's "1001 Nights" is essential for anyone intrigued by the intersections of culture, storytelling, and history. It not only enriches the reader's understanding of these timeless tales but also showcases the profound impact of cultural exchange. This work holds a timeless allure, inviting both scholars and casual readers to immerse themselves in the enchanting world Burton skillfully reclaims.

An anthology of stories can be a fun thing or a scary one.
Deciding what goes into an anthology can be daunting. Too much romance and some folks may decide it is ‘too mushy’. Put too much humour in, and others will say, ‘there is no substance’. Go with more science fiction, or fantasy, or horror, and you will have some folks just not pick up the book.
Finding the perfect ‘mix’ is a challenge for sure.
‘Stories to Share with My Partner – Book 3’ presents what I hope is a good mix of stories and poetry to make everyone happy.
You have some love stories, ‘The Red Bug’ and the ‘The Coat’, for example, while science fiction is covered in ‘When the Future Arrives’ and ‘Coordinates’.
Funny stories are what I enjoy writing about, and there are few in this book.
‘So That Is When the Fight Started’ is something many can relate too and in ‘Jerk’ I take a different approach to ‘superheroes’.
I hope you enjoy reading these as much as I did when I wrote them.

In the Unnatural Quarter, the Plot Thickens . . . and then runs uncontrollably!
When Howard Phillips Publishing announces the 12 + 1 anniversary edition (due to unavoidable production delays) of the famed Necronomicon—the very book that caused the Big Uneasy in the first place—it takes zombie P.I. Dan Chambeaux, a.k.a. “Shamble,” to root out the diabolical schemes surrounding the book, and the fanatics who wish to destroy it.
With enough plot twists to confound a professional contortionist, Dan Shamble doesn’t have time for light reading. Along with his ghost girlfriend Sheyenne, his firebrand lawyer partner Robin, his best human friend Officer Toby McGoohan, and his ultra-cute vampire half-daughter Alvina, Dan faces an unnatural caseload.
Entire neighborhoods in the Quarter have simply vanished into thin air.
Rogue werewolf cop Hairy Harry struggles to write and market his memoir.
Customer complaints turn monstrous over an auto-mechanic shop run by gremlins, to whom “repair” is a foreign concept.
And when unnatural doppelgangers appear in the shadowed streets, it does not mean double the fun.
Entangled in it all is the mousy virgin librarian—now turned superstar celebrity—whose blood sacrifice, through an accidental paper cut, brought back all the monsters thirteen years ago.
That anniversary is indeed an unlucky number.
