Summary

Freelance journalist  Martyr is sent to Gorgona Island by his publisher, where rumors about a huge flow and concentration of jellyfish on site are  capturing Influential Authorities' attention. While Gorgona officials welcome Martyr by shooting at him (access to the island is banned due to the presence of a penal colony), two beautiful women, Doctor Julia Bonnie Wogecrasher and Professor Froggy Dauphine, reach the island through synchronized swimming underwater, covering twenty nautical miles. The three of them, who establish a relationship in the days to follow, come across unsettling facts about Gorgona, and Commander Segevarje is involved too (management director of the frogmen, who discretely patrol the Tuscan Archipelago): the latter, always wearing a diving mask and snorkel to hide his identity, reports a terrible occurrence has happened on the island, because of which a few males were turned into stone. Was it the jellyfish... or Medusa herself ? In a smooth and gripping succession of twists and turns, Gorgona Island is the scene of a power and drug scheme which, once more, leads beyond the author's fine eroticism and jaunty irony.

Millennial #snowflakes clash with #baby-boomers: Nineteen tales of human connection and disconnection that collide and subvert the half-crazed romantic contemporary, the not so distant rosy past, our dodgy looking promised cyberpunk utopia and our post-apocalyptic dystopian future. Provocative, wistful, melancholic, nightmarish and darkly funny satire, these episodes…must surely play out logically. Or not.
How far will these characters go for love, understanding or survival? To Sainsbury's, the Caribbean or Tibet, up a ladder, under Biotech's robotic knives, or…to the brink of sanity? A pack of reluctant hopeful lone wolves: one builds a cabin, one a bike, another joins a teen gang. The refugee, the bereaved, the gaslighted child and the helpful neighbour all wander. The quixotic therapy addict just fibs like hell. And the porn voyeurs? The always-on algorithm search engine media junkies? Well, they do what they do, right #now.
Welcome to the curious world of If this Then That.

This is vintage Vonnegut: short stories never-before collected or published in book form. They are from the era of the Golden Age of magazines: a pre-television time when publications such as The Saturday Evening Post, Collier's, Argosy, and others reigned supreme as Americans' entertainment choice. Before that Golden Age drew to a close half a century ago, a young PR man at General Electric sold his first short story to one of the publications. By the time he'd sold his third, Vonnegut quit GE to join the likes of Hemingway, Fitzgerald, and Faulkner to write short stories at fifteen-hundred dollars a piece.Vonnegut himself has selected the best of these early stories for this audio collection, and has written a new preface and afterword for the occasion. Now listeners can relive the genesis of the master. Stories such as "Cruise of the Jolly Roger," "The Powder Blue Dragon," "Hal Irwin's Magic Lamp," and "Bagombo Snuff Box" return us to the beginning of a literary voice that's sure to endure forever. Bagombo Snuff Box, the missing pieces of the master's collection, is a ready-made classic for Vonnegut fans new and old.
