Synopsis

Descartes was an eighteenth-century mathematician and musician, He believed that all problems could be solved using mathematical logic. In this book which was published in 1701 after his death, he outlines the four main rules: (1) accept nothing as true that is not self-evident, (2) divide problems into their simplest parts, (3) solve problems by proceeding from simple to complex, and (4) recheck the reasoning.

Child labor remains one of the most pressing issues worldwide, with millions of children still engaged in work that deprives them of their childhood, education, and basic rights. Despite global efforts to end the practice, child labor persists across many parts of the world, particularly in regions where poverty, lack of education, and weak legal enforcement create an environment where children are forced to work instead of attending school.
The term "child labor" refers to the exploitation of children through any form of work that deprives them of their childhood, potential, and dignity, and that harms their physical and mental development. It is often associated with work that is dangerous, physically demanding, or otherwise unsuitable for children. These children, sometimes as young as five or six, are employed in a wide range of industries, including agriculture, mining, manufacturing, and domestic labor.
Historically, child labor was a common practice during the Industrial Revolution, where children were seen as a cheap source of labor. However, as industrialized nations implemented laws and regulations to protect children, the issue seemed to fade in many parts of the developed world. Unfortunately, this progress has not been mirrored in many developing nations, where children continue to be exploited for economic gain. Global estimates suggest that over 150 million children worldwide are engaged in child labor, with a significant portion working in hazardous conditions.

If you struggle with substance abuse, you may have intense feelings of loneliness, isolation, and disconnection. You may feel uncomfortable asking others for help. And when faced with difficult emotions, it's easy to fall into the habit of numbing and avoiding emotional pain with drugs and alcohol, which can leave you feeling even more shame and despair. So, how do you break this cycle and create real connections that will reward you with relief, belonging, and a sense of safety?

The exercises in this workbook are based in proven-effective emotionally focused therapy (EFT)—an innovative approach for transforming the pain of addiction into a sense of love, community, and connection. Step by step, you'll build a solid foundation of self-compassion to help you heal from the underlying causes that drove you to self-medicate in the first place. Instead of trying to dull the pain at the core of your addiction, you'll discover how to develop a safety net of relationships to protect you. The more emotionally fluent you become, the more you'll learn to rely on your support network in times of distress—and the less likely you'll be to reach for substances. As you remove the obstacles that block healthy connection to others, you'll begin to resolve the pain buried deep within, and replace your addiction with a reliable, caring connection with others—and with yourself!
