In this inspiring memoir, Emily Falcon chronicles her lifelong journey with a congenital cardiac condition. In 1982, at seven weeks old, she had a heart attack that destroyed forty percent of the left side of her heart. This was her entry into a world of multiple cardiac procedures, surgeries, and hospitalizations, and a later diagnosis of glaucoma. Balancing these serious conditions defined her life.
Falcon's memoir is a story of survival and how her physical situation shaped and limited her. She intends this story to be a helpful resource to families, caregivers, and physicians who want to gain insight into a patient's point of view.
In 2017, after a lifetime of feeling that nothing could ever change, Falcon had a second open-heart surgery, which allowed her to participate in a 5K race a mere eight months later. She was no longer stuck on the sidelines. Drawing from her extensive life experiences, Falcon recounts how she found a way to surmount obstacles that people who live with incurable medical conditions and their supporters might face. In the book, Falcon describes how she has remained courageous and pragmatic in her mission to stay alive. She encourages her readers to advocate for themselves, believe in their abilities, never be afraid to test their boundaries, and feel motivated to make changes in their lives.

Explore the secret behind George Washington’s military genius with an award-winning West Point history professor. George Washington came to be known as Father of His Country. In his role as commander in chief of the Continental Army, George Washington defeated the British in the American Revolution and established the United States of America. Through his extraordinary military leadership, he guaranteed that the American Republic would move forward in its revolutionary experiment. So how was Washington able to win this seemingly unwinnable war? This compelling 15-lecture audio course, presented by West Point history professor Seanegan Sculley, answers this and many more questions about one of the most foundational figures in American history. Professor Sculley explores Washington’s singular military career from its beginnings during the French and Indian War through the end of the Revolution. After investigating Washington’s boyhood experiences and his service in the French and Indian War, you’ll look into the first years of the American Revolution, as he attempts to control a disorganized armed force with no institutional structure. Next, you’ll transition into the second half of the war, as Washington learns from his mistakes and builds a more professional army capable of working with allies to defeat the British. Last, you’ll analyze his actions as a strategist and tactician, as a military administrator and commander, and finally as the first president of the United States wrestling with lingering issues from the War for Independence. This publication was privately produced and is not the product of an official of the United States Army acting in an official capacity. This audiobook is narrated by an AI Voice.
A gripping and unflinching examination of one of the darkest chapters in modern history and the global forces that allowed it to unfold.
Between 1975 and 1979, Cambodia endured unimaginable horror under the Khmer Rouge regime, where nearly two million lives were lost to systematic brutality, starvation, and mass executions. But this is not just the story of a ruthless dictatorship; it is the story of how international powers, driven by Cold War rivalries and geopolitical interests, turned a blind eye and sometimes actively enabled the rise and reign of terror.
Drawing on newly uncovered documents, survivor testimonies, and incisive analysis, this book reveals the tangled web of political alliances, foreign interventions, and diplomatic failures that contributed to the genocide. From secret bombings and covert support to the paralysis of the United Nations, it exposes how global dynamics shaped Cambodia’s fate, allowing one of history’s greatest atrocities to remain hidden for decades.
The Cambodian Genocide challenges readers to confront uncomfortable truths about international responsibility, the cost of political indifference, and the enduring scars left on a nation. It is a vital, haunting reminder of how the world’s silence can become complicit in the darkest of crimes — and a call never to forget the lessons of history.

A German air force officer’s first person account of aerial battle during the invasion of Sicily in WWII.   In an account of unusual power, Luftwaffe ace Johannes Steinhoff draws from his personal World War II diary to recount the final days of the German air force on Sicily in June and July 1943. Facing crushing odds—including a commander, Hermann Goring, who contemptuously treated his pilots as cowards—Steinhoff and his fellow Messerschmitt 109 pilots took to the skies day after day to meet waves of dreaded Flying Fortresses and swarms of Allied fighters, all bent on driving the Germans from the island. A captivating narrative and a piercing analysis, this book is a classic of aerial combat.

Gestapo Hunter explores the charmed life and exceptional career of Ted Sismore, widely considered one of the RAF's very best wartime navigators and leaders. A quiet, unassuming man who was nicknamed "Daisy" on account of his youthful complexion, Ted was one of only a handful of aircrew to complete a tour of operations in Blenheims in the summer of 1941. He flew in the daylight attack on Berlin, timed to coincide with an address being given by Hermann Göring, for which he received the first of several awards for gallantry and which was widely publicized. Identified by Basil Embry, the mercurial AOC of 2 Group, as something of a kindred spirit, Ted joined the Group's HQ staff, planning Operation Jericho, the famous attack on the prison at Amiens on February 18, 1944, and taking part on October 31 later that year in another "spectacular" to bomb the Gestapo HQ at Aarhus in Denmark. Raids on the SS and Gestapo became something of a specialty, Ted leading further pinpoint bombing attacks on "Shell House" in Copenhagen (Operation Carthage) and the Gestapo HQ at Odense. After the war, Ted teamed up with Mick Martin, the famous Dambuster, to break the flying record from London to Cape Town, in 1947, a journey of almost 7,000 miles. He later qualified as a pilot, flying Meteors, Javelins, and Canberras, retiring as an air commodore. He died in 2012.
