Sinopsis

Whales Dive Deep unveils the hidden world of sperm whales and their extraordinary deep-sea diving behavior. These marine mammals can plunge to depths exceeding 3,000 feet, showcasing remarkable physiological adaptations to withstand immense pressure and navigate the dark abyss. By exploring their foraging strategies and social interactions at these extreme depths, the book emphasizes the ecological role of sperm whales in the deep ocean.

The book progresses through chapters that analyze data from marine tags, revealing how sperm whales hunt for prey like squid and coordinate their dives. It also examines the impact of human activities, such as noise pollution, on these creatures. This approach of combining tagging data with ecological and physiological analyses provides a unique understanding of sperm whale behavior. It highlights the importance of marine conservation efforts to protect these magnificent animals and their habitats.

    London Feeds Itself

London is often called the best place in the world to eat – a city where a new landmark restaurant opens each day, where vertiginous towers, sprawling food halls and central neighbourhoods contain the cuisines of every country in the world. Yet, this London is not where Londoners usually eat. There is another version of London that exists in its marginal spaces, where food culture flourishes in parks and allotments, in warehouses and industrial estates, along rivers and A-roads, in baths and in libraries. A city where Londoners eat, sell, produce and distribute food every day without fanfare, where its food culture weaves in and out of daily urban existence.

In a city of rising rents, of gentrification, and displacement, this new and updated edition of London Feeds Itself, edited by the food writer and editor of Vittles, Jonathan Nunn, shows that the true centres of London food culture can be found in ever more creative uses of space, eked out by the people who make up the city. Its chapters explore the charged intersections between food and modern London's varied urban conditions, from markets and railway arches to places of worship to community centres. 26 essays about 26 different buildings, structures and public amenities in which London's vernacular food culture can be found, seen through the eyes of writers, architects, journalists and politicians – all accompanied by over 125 guides to some of the city's best vernacular restaurants across all 33 London boroughs.

    A CLOCKWORK ORANGE
    THE ULTIMATE TRIVIA COLLECTION

FROM THE MOVIE DIRECTED BY STANLEY KUBRICK

    CREATED BY FILM TRIVIA METAVERSE

    ABOUT THE FILM
A Clockwork Orange is a 1971 dystopian film directed by Stanley Kubrick, based on Anthony Burgess's novel. Set in a near-future society, it follows Alex DeLarge, a sadistic delinquent who leads a gang of criminals. The film explores themes of violence, free will, and social control, as Alex and his gang engage in brutal acts of "ultraviolence." After being caught, Alex undergoes an experimental treatment to "rehabilitate" him, stripping away his ability to choose between good and evil. Kubrick uses stark visuals, classical music, and dark humor to critique authoritarianism, behavioral conditioning, and the loss of individuality.

    TRIVIA SAMPLES:

“Malcolm McDowell's eyes were anesthetized for the torture scenes so that he could film for extended periods without excessive discomfort. Despite this, his corneas were repeatedly scratched by the metal lid locks.”

“Stanley Kubrick's first cut of the film, before editing by several assistants, was nearly four hours long.”

“The doctor overseeing Alex during the violent film scenes was a real doctor, ensuring that Malcolm McDowell’s eyes did not dry out during filming.”

“The sped-up sex scene in the movie was originally filmed as a continuous take that lasted 28 minutes. This was revealed by Malcolm McDowell on the 2007 DVD commentary track.”

“Stanley Kubrick had his assistant destroy all unused footage after shooting wrapped on the film.”
