Sinopsis

A new translation of the Italian novelist’s cautionary comedy of excess and despair in 1920s Paris—“this little romp is always a pleasurable one” (Publishers Weekly).  Paris, 1920s. The City of Light is a dizzy and decadent bohemia for Tito Arnaudi, a young Italian medical student turned bon vivant journalist. To escape the moralizing of his Italian hometown—or perhaps it was merely a whim—Tito got on a train to Paris without so much as a letter of introduction. Soon enough, he finds employment inventing lurid scandals and gruesome deaths to newspapers. But his own life becomes even more outrageous than his press reports when he acquires three demanding mistresses.   Elegant, witty, and wicked, Pitigrilli’s classic novel was first published in Italian in 1921 and captures the lure of a bygone era even as it charts the comical tragedy of a young man’s downfall. The novel’s descriptions of sex and drug use prompted church authorities to place Cocaine on a list of forbidden books, while filmmaker Rainer Werner Fassbinder wrote a screenplay based on the tale. Even today, Cocaine retains its venomous bite.

“But who wants to be foretold the weather? It is bad enough when it comes, without our having the misery of knowing about it beforehand.”
    J. and his friends George and Harris decide that taking a boating holiday on the Thames from Kingston upon Thames to Oxford and back to Kingston is a great idea – what could go wrong?
Originally intended to be a serious travel guide, the humorous elements soon took over and Three Men in a Boat (To Say Nothing of the Dog) has been considered a classic masterpiece of British humor since its first publication in 1889.

The story of the world's best Caribbean boat bum
Ron Añejo loves his carefree lifestyle in the Caribbean, sailing his barely seaworthy wooden boat from one dodgy job to the next. It's a life that requires lots of chutzpah and more than a little luck. Legal work for a boat bum can be hard to come by, even if you actually had a work permit. And Ron isn't big on formalities.
Ron tries not to take life too seriously, and his optimistic approach usually manages to get himself, his crew, and Groucho, his Kayakoo water spaniel through one day and into the next. But the dubious work he sometimes takes on is risky. They live in the margins and listing too far beyond the laws of the various islands could put them all behind the wrong kind of tropical bars.
These are the adventures of salty sea dogs, and hilarity on the high seas. Oddly enough, if you sail down there, you'll hear some of these stories from people who'll tell you it's all really true. Just ask old Bald Guy when you see him.
