Sinopsis

Thirteen-year-old Will Booth is feeling terribly lonely. Ever since his dad died, he and his mum and their dog Spot are doing everything they can to cope with the feeling of emptiness that his father has left behind. On a cold, miserable Saturday afternoon Will takes Spot out for the usual walk along the riverbank, but is met by a tall, odd-looking man. The man describes himself, and his kind, as Watchers and tells Will that he needs his help to save Will's dad from great danger. How can Will's dad be in danger? Who are these Watchers that Will meets? Are they travellers or something more than that? And what are the mysterious, misshapen humps hidden beneath their coats? Another exciting thriller from Philip Caveney - acclaimed author of the Sebastian Darke thrillers for children and the Alec Devlin mysteries - and sure to be a hit.

This “faithful retelling” of the Hans Christian Andersen tale is “a jewel box of a work whose pages invite lingering” (Publishers Weekly).   From bestselling and multiple award-winning artist Sylvia Long comes an exquisite version of Hans Christian Andersen’s beloved tale about a thumb-size girl and her larger-than-life adventures. Jewel-toned paintings depict the story’s settings, from light and airy meadows to Mole’s dark and dismal underground home—while whimsical details bring the classic cast of characters to life and make this story-time favorite a visual feast.   “Her watercolors bring out the wonder of the natural world with an almost emotional intensity.” —The New York Times Book Review    “The illustrator has made a lush and vivid world for her Thumbelina to inhabit.” —Kirkus Reviews

From a Newbery Medal and National Book Award winner, a story of girl genius who struggles to fit in at school.

Nobody understands why Angeline is so smart. She could read the first time she picked up a book, she can play the piano without ever having had a lesson, and she even knows what the weather is going to be. But being smart is causing Angeline nothing but trouble. The mean kids in school call her a freak, her teacher finds her troublesome, and even her own father doesn’t know what to do with an eight-year-old girl who seems to be a genius. Angeline doesn’t want to be either a genius or a freak. She just wants the chance to be herself and be happy. But it’s only when she makes friends with a boy the kids call “Goon” and the teacher they call “Mr. Bone” that Angeline gets that chance.
