  The 61 poems in White Terror Black Trauma concentrate on some of the most traumatic events in Black history from colonial to contemporary times, from the arrival of enslaved Africans in 1619 to Black revolts, Civil War atrocities, incalculable lynchings, the Tulsa massacre, the brave sacrifices of Rosa Parks, the Freedom Riders, the heroes of school desegregation, the murders of Emmet Till, Dr. King, Fred Hampton, Malcolm X, Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown, George Floyd, Breanna Taylor, Eric Garner, and Tyre Nichols.   Each poem here carries a brief head note identifying the person, place, time, or event that addresses the historical context of the poem.   It's difficult for most of us to envision somebody injuring a child. Child abuse and neglect are absolutely real, as unpleasant as they can be. In the United States, more than 600,000 children are abused or neglected each year. Physical and psychological integrity and protection from all types of violence are guaranteed to all persons under 18. Nonetheless, we know that children and adolescents are subjected to violence in the home, at school, in legal and child protection systems, at work, and in the community for various social and cultural reasons.As a result, children and adolescents are harmed in areas and locations that are supposed to provide them with safety, affection, developmental stimulation, refuge, and advocacy for their rights. One of the factors that makes them particularly vulnerable is their lack of autonomy as a result of their young age, as well as the high levels of emotional, economic, and social dependency they have on adults or institutions, making it difficult for them to stop the abuse, seek help, or report the situation.We pay for children's exposure to violence in various ways, including physical and mental health care, child welfare, special education, juvenile and criminal justice, and productivity losses throughout their lives.

  Courage Under Fire is the first book published about Operation Lamar Plain. After fifty years, the story of the renowned 101st Airborne's major offensive near Tam Ky, South Vietnam, remains largely unknown. Fighting at Tam Ky by the 1st Brigade began 15 May 1969 while the 101st's 3rd Brigade battled on Hamburger Hill. The political consequences of Hamburger Hill's high casualties caused Lamar Plain and its high casualties to remain classified and undisclosed. Decades later, the fighting at Tam Ky is mostly forgotten except by those who fought there. 
   
   
   
  Sherwood's superb research of now declassified records uncovers how such a large battle could remain hidden and undisclosed. But that is not the heart of his story. His focus is on the courage and commitment of the young infantry soldiers who fought. This book uses actual battle records and eyewitness accounts to follow "Never Quit" Delta Company and its sister companies through continuous combat at Tam Ky. Delta Company's soldiers lived up to their motto despite increasing casualties, a tough enemy, harsh battlefield conditions, and loss of leaders. 
   
   
   
  For all who fought at Tam Ky, their bravery and devotion to duty in an increasingly unpopular war is worthy to be remembered. With veterans of Tam Ky now growing older and fewer in number, it is past time to tell their story.
