Sinopse

Vatican II called the Bible “the support and energy of the Church,” “the pure and everlasting source of spiritual life,” and “the food of the soul.” Yet, for many Catholics, their engagement with Scripture is often limited to what they hear at Mass. In Food for the Soul (Cycle A), the first book in a riveting three-part series, celebrated philosopher Peter Kreeft invites the faithful—clergy and laity alike—to a heart-to-heart relationship with Christ the Word through the Word of the Scriptures. Moving through the first reading, second reading, and Gospel reading for each Sunday and other major liturgical celebrations throughout the three-year lectionary cycle, Kreeft brings the Mass readings to life with his trademark blend of wit and wisdom, challenging readers to plant their souls in the rich soil of Scripture and sharpen their minds with the Sword of the Spirit. Whether you are a layperson looking for additional insight on the readings at Mass, or a priest or deacon looking for inspiration for a homily, Food for the Soul is a gift to the whole Church from one of today’s greatest Christian writers.

Buddha isn't depicted as a deity, but rather as a human being, just like each one of us. He experiences the same emotions and trials as we do. Drawing closer to Buddha involves confronting hardship and pain. By acknowledging our own suffering, we allow the Buddha within us to address its source, understand its roots, and guide us towards peace, joy, and liberation.
In the Discourse on Turning the Wheel of the Dharma, a sutra found in the Buddhist scripture Samyutta Nikaya, we learn of Buddha's journey to enlightenment. Originally named Siddhartha Gautama, Buddha embarked on a quest at the age of 29 to alleviate his own suffering and that of others. After six years of meditation and study under various teachers, he attained enlightenment.
Buddha then shared his insights with the five ascetics he had practiced with before. He imparted the Four Noble Truths: the reality of suffering, the causes of suffering, the possibility of alleviating suffering, and the Noble Eightfold Path leading to liberation.

Prepare not only to go to the temple but to be in it as well.
Temples are filled with ancient symbols that point directly to the Atonement. These symbols are all around - in scriptures, cultural motifs, and architectural details.
    C. Robert Line, doctor in sociology of religion, offers help to those wanting to make sense of certain aspects of the temple and the endowment. By showing how these symbols all point back to Christ’s Atonement, he aims to enrich and enliven the worship experience that church members can and should expect when they attend the house of the Lord.
Learn to recognize the true meanings of temple symbols, such as the circle in the square motif, the tree of life, and sacred temple clothing, and allow their meanings to bring you closer to Christ.

The ancient Hermetic philosophers were well aware of a certain subtitle correspondence or analogy existing between the superior and inferior worlds, the world of causation and that of effects. They traced a connection between the noumenal and the phenomenal, between the mind of man and his bodily condition, between the spiritual and the natural. They affirmed all this in a trite axiom: As above, so below.
This philosophy extended to concrete observations, and became a science which they embodied in the Doctrine of Correspondences. The hieroglyphic writings of the Chinese, Egyptians, and Assyrians are the outcome of this science, portions of which are current in our own thought and language. Thus when we speak of commerce, the merchant and the market, we are going back to traditional knowledge which associated the "winged messenger" of the gods with the ship in full sail; the word merx (trade) being at the root of the name Mercury, and the symbol the hieroglyph for all that the name imports. We call the Sun "he" and the Moon "she," tracing unconsciously a subtle correspondence between the day and the active male function in nature, and between the night and the passive female function. We speak of jovial men and infer their connection with the planet Jupiter; and all our destructive and hurtful ideas are embodied in such words as "to mar, ,"martial", "murder," etc., linking them to their source in the root marna (to strike), because the destructive element in nature is represented in our system by the planet Mars.

Love Like Jesus - How Jesus...

Based on Kurt Bennett's popular-ish blog God Running, Love Like Jesus begins with the story of how after a life of regular church attendance and Bible study, Bennett was challenged by a pastor to study Jesus. That led to an obsessive seven-year deep dive. After pouring over Jesus' every interaction with another human being, he realized he was doing a much better job of studying Jesus' words than he was following Jesus' words and example. The honest and fearless revelations of Bennett's own moral failures affirm he wrote this book for himself as much as for others.Love Like Jesus examines a variety of stories, examples, and research, including:-Specific examples of how Jesus communicated God's love to others.-How Jesus demonstrated all five of Gary Chapman's love languages (and how you can too).-The story of how Billy Graham extended Christ's extraordinary love and grace toward a man who misrepresented Jesus to millions.-How to respond to critics the way Jesus did.-How to love unlovable people the way Jesus did.-How to survive a life of loving like Jesus (or how not to become a Christian doormat).-How Jesus didn't love everyone the same (and why you shouldn't either).-How Jesus guarded his heart by taking care of himself--he even napped--and why you should do the same.-How Jesus loved his betrayer Judas, even to the very end. With genuine unfiltered honesty, Love Like Jesus, shows you how to live a life according to God's definition of success: A life of loving God well, and loving the people around you well too.A life of loving like Jesus.
