Summary

Aviation has always been a source of fascination, but the industry is not without occasional shocks and surprises. Flight crews are expected to communicate perfectly at all times, to manage complex situations, and to make the right decisions at the right times. In the corporate world, it is no different. And this is where professional pilot and communication expert Peter Brandl draws remarkable parallels between these two worlds.
Crash Communication takes his audience on an exciting journey between airplane cockpits and the business world. It combines spectacular incidents from aviation and business with everyday communication scenarios. How is it that, in spite of the highest safety precautions, catastrophic air accidents still occur from time to time? Similarly, how is it possible that a lender would give $320 million to an insolvent US bank? Crash Communication shows that the factor of "human error" follows a fatal logic. Peter Brandl offers original and relevant answers to fundamental questions of leadership and communication. His fascinating approach shows managers and executives in the “corporate cockpit" what to do when the warning lights come on.
“This book is a must for all those who bear responsibility in companies.”
Borries von Mueller, Global Head HR, Fresenius Medical Care
“His hands-on experience as an entrepreneur, commercial pilot, and communications expert make this book so exciting.”
Michael Baumann, Managing Director, MTU South Africa

Gathering wealth has never been considered an indication of evil in Judaism. In fact, wealth can and should benefit everyone. In Thou Shall Prosper (2008), Rabbi Daniel Lapin maps out his ten commandments for making money, inspired by his Jewish faith. He aims to make the Jewish perspective towards money approachable and valuable for everyone, regardless of faith. You can achieve success if you stop seeing money as a burden or an unavoidable evil, and start viewing it as your key to becoming a contributing and prosperous member of society.

I decided to write this book because of the need for an effective system of managing and enhancing people's ability to communicate. Its applications span business as well as personal interactions. It can be a simple way of assessing the personalities of people around you and enabling you to better interact with them. I've played the role of an employee in middle management as well as upper management. One essential skill for any good manager is communication. It is important to be able to assess the people you are managing and also to be able to effectively deliver the correct messages. It is not only important to deliver the ideas, but it also needs to be done in a way that impacts the audience correctly. An effective manager must also assess and manage the emotional states of the people involved. I have spent a good part of my life working as an employee and in upper management and middle management. I have also consulted management for many different types of organizations in the public as well as the private sector. I have worked in specific industries such as transit, technology, public works, city government, the military, and hospitality. My approach has always been to try to create effective modes of interaction and communication between employees and middle management, as well as between management and upper management.
This book is concerned mostly with daily interactions at the employee level. The system and skills taught can be applied to any interaction in the business and personal life. Management systems are often well thought out and well structured, but quite often, they do not lend themselves to the chaotic, on-the-spot timber of human interactions. The Tao of Human Communications is a system rooted in present-moment fluid interactions.

The way most business leaders deploy capex right now is nothing short of a train wreck. Very few look at their asset base as a collective network; rather, they see their assets as standalone performers, have no strategy for the role each asset plays in the grand scheme of things, and, therefore, fail to invest in their network for the long term to generate more cash for the business, asset by asset. Redesigning Capex Strategy provides an effective—and almost painfully obvious—solution to some of the greatest missed opportunities happening in business today. In this resource that will revolutionize your capex decision-making, globally renowned capex strategists Fredrik Weissenrieder and Daniel Lindén share their proven methodology for focusing on the entire range of potential strategies and cash flow outcomes for hundreds of scenarios across a multi-asset base. It's not about incremental improvement. It's a radical transformation of how you allocate capital—and avoid throwing good money after bad. With a capex strategy that accounts for each asset's role as part of the asset network, there's never a question about the best path forward. Redesigning Capex Strategy doesn't just redesign your capex strategy—it helps you redesign your entire company's future.

Significant reform of the financial markets is coming. Financial Regulation will specifically cover the new rules, the theory behind these rules, and their impact on both the corporations and the individual.  The book is organized into three sections. The first section will provide the background needed to understand the issues of regulation.  This section will briefly cover theory, as well as the most common issues raised in the course of debate on financial regulation in general.  This will not be an exhaustive coverage of the topic, but an overview to make sure the reader has the necessary background to fully understand the need for and the intention of the new laws. The second section will look at the process the new regulations went through prior to being enacted, the debate and the result. The final section focus on the new regulations and the recent financial crisis. The book will cover the reforms that have been enacted and look toward any future reforms. The book will cover the new laws from both a theoretical point of view, as well as addressing what financial institutions will need to do to comply with these laws.

A financial revolution is materializing before our eyes. The way individuals, organizations, and governments conduct transactions—from purchasing a book online to acquiring major corporations to delivering billions in financial aid—will look vastly different in the near future. Bitcoin is spearheading this revolution and may be the best investment opportunity of our time, yet most people have yet to understand its promise. In this book, Bobby C. Lee, one of the earliest pioneers in the cryptocurrency space, debunks myths and dispels fears that surround Bitcoin, arguing that this rational, logical system is superior to traditional monetary systems. He cites signs of Bitcoin's widening acceptance: a growing community of users worldwide and multiple initiatives for investing in and holding bitcoin among major financial services organizations and institutional investors who control trillions in assets.Lee offers a primer on the best strategies for investing in this digital currency, the value of which will only continue to grow. He discusses the pros and cons, and covers the complicated yet more profitable method of acquiring bitcoin, mining. He offers predictions for the future, including price, trajectory, use, and participation in the larger economy—as well as developments in regulation, technology, business, and society.
