Stanley Featherstonehough Ukridge is willing to do anything to get a buck – except, of course, work. Bombastic and big-eared, Ukridge has a bottomless well of corking ideas that never seem to work out, yet he’s always willing to volunteer others to tackle the inconvenient bits. Whether he’s commandeering a dog college, managing a tender-hearted pugilist, or brushing the perpetual chips off his aunt’s shoulder, Ukridge’s spotty success record never gets him down.
Ukridge had a special place in Wodehouse’s heart, appearing in stories for 60 years, with the last published as late as 1966. Ukridge first appeared to American audiences in Love Among the Chickens (1906). While this collection is the second published (1924), the events take place before the dodgy poultry adventure.

    **Indie Author Project 2024 WINNER**
**Distinguished Favorite Romantic Comedy for the 2024 NYC Big Book Awards**
She wants her life back. He wants to live. When a writer and her imaginary muse go head-to-head, real life gets complicated.
Callie Austin, the unknown author of the wildly popular Tex Miller book series, decides twenty-plus years of living in anonymity is enough. Her plan? Kill the beloved Tex Miller. But with a fierce agent, a cut-throat editor, and a beyond-zealous fan base, Callie knows not everyone will be happy. And just wait until Tex hears about it.
At twenty-two, Callie, orphaned and grieving, conjured Tex Miller, a dashing adventurer, a now-adored literary character who makes women swoon and men sit up straighter. Her novel skyrocketed, but Callie was lucky. It was the mid-1990s, pre-internet explosion, and much to her publisher’s chagrin, she insisted she remain anonymous by using a pen name. The enigmatic Calliope Jones was born and cloistered away in one fell swoop, leaving an idolizing public scratching its collective head. Visible only to her, Tex Miller became her constant screwball companion.
Two decades and a dozen books later, on a routine trip to NYC, Callie plans to end the Tex Miller saga, but an up-and-coming streaming service’s offer to turn Callie’s books into an original series may waylay Tex’s demise. Things spiral further when her trusted longtime driver falls ill, and a younger replacement chauffeur catches her eye—and maybe her heart, while Tex goes rogue, unsure he’s down with the new plot twists.
Throw in a dogged gossip blog’s rabid pursuit of ‘the truth’ along with Calliope Jones’s fervent fandom, and the world's favorite unidentified writer has her hands full.

The Ultimate Book of Shaggy Dog...

The true definition of a shaggy dog story is as follows: a long, rambling story or joke, typically one that is amusing only because it is absurdly inconsequential or pointless. A ‘Shaggy dog’ story in its purest form is a long-winded tale which eventually arrives at a sometimes ridiculous and often ‘groan-inducing’ punchline. After much research and to the best of my knowledge, these stories have never been released in audiobook form or print. Having said that, the main reason for putting together this collection of stories and jokes is in the hope of encouraging parents, particularly fathers to become storytellers to their children, although obviously, anyone can listen. As a father of three, these stories hold fond memories for me during long car journeys and keeping my sons entertained. No matter how many times they’re repeated, kids love to hear them over and over again. Some of the stories might be considered incredibly ‘cringe worthy’ but the fact is, kids, love them and will love hearing you tell them. I guarantee they will pass these stories on to their children when they too become parents. Some of these tales might not be considered ‘politically correct these days, so use your judgement in their retelling. I have included some of the best ‘Quickfire Dad jokes’ between stories and a rude section of rhymes and limericks at the end of the book. These will hopefully bring back fond memories from your childhood and time in the playground as they do for me. Have fun and enjoy spending time with your children, they grow up so quickly. To quote Superman: The son becomes the father and the father becomes the son.

Shitty Breaks - A Celebration of...

Not everything that glitters is gold - which is why Ben Aitken went to Wolverhampton for the weekend.

Over the next year, the bestselling author of A Chip Shop in Poznan and The Gran Tour visited twelve of the least popular spots in the UK and Ireland for a city break, as ranked by national tourism boards. The motivation wasn't to take the biscuit or stick the boot in, but to seek out the good stuff, to uncover the gems, to have a nice time. By doing so, he hoped to demonstrate that anywhere - like anyone - can be interesting and nourishing and enjoyable if approached in the right fashion.

Ben went skiing in Sunderland, to the football in Wrexham, and fell in love with Dunfermline. He kissed an alpaca in Bradford, suffered jellied eels in Chelmsford, and had more craic in Limerick than was wise. The upshot is a celebration of the underdog; a hymn to the wrong direction; and evidence that there's no such thing as a shitty break. What's more, by spreading its affection beyond the usual suspects (which are often overdone and overpriced), Shitty Breaks promotes a less expensive and more sustainable brand of travel.

By going against the grain, the book champions the unsung in an algorithmic, over-signposted world dominated by celebs and hotspots. Cheeky weekend in Milton Keynes anyone?

In a utopian future society, where all social unrest has been engineered away, a man has an awakening. Starting as a happy worker drone, he meets a woman who reveals to him the reality of life outside the state's control - the glories of chaotic nature in the world and in the heart. They become entwined with a conspiracy against the state, and eventually try to escape beyond the walls of the state's control... only to meet betrayal, failure, and a dark ending in the glorious light of the state's total control.Sound familiar? It's probably because you've read Orwell's nineteen eighty-four, which he wrote eight months after he read We, wrote a review of it, and said he was taking it as the model for his next novel. Or Huxley's Brave New World.Or maybe you've read Vonnegut's Player Piano, which of Vonnegut said he "cheerfully ripped off the plot of Brave New World, whose plot had been cheerfully ripped off from Yevgeny Zamyatin's We". You might even have come across other plays on the theme, such as Ayn Rand's Anthem or Vladimir Nabokov's Invitation to a Beheading, written while Nabakov was reading We. Or even possibly Ursula K. Le Guin's The Dispossessed. The tale is familiar, but the satirical and farcical comedy is a delight all of its own.
